Hi. I've got a Gigabyte 965P-DS3 Mobo and a Creative Xfi soundcard; however, I cannot seem to find the option to turn off the onboard sound so I can use the creative soundcard.

Everytime I install the creative drivers, It reboots but then the onboard sound takes over.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Brian.

I had also problems with my x-fi. Thought I had disabled the onboard sound. My problem was that the x-fi disappeared frequently and it wasn't recognized as a x-fi sound card. This problem disappeared when I updated bios to F8i you should also do that. It a beta bios so you can't find it from the gigabyte site. Maybe someone has a link..

Apparently sb cards can have troublesome drivers and the ds3 is a new board I guess. You can also disable onboard sound in windows device driver to stop it switching like that

Creative cards have always had appalling drivers, hence why ill never touch em again, cards are great, drivers etc... are appalling, last creative card i had was a soundblaster live many years ago, never again will i touch em, you get IRQ conflicts, appalling drivers... they can make games stutter the lot.

The onboard sound will be in Integrated Peripherals in the BIOS, on my DS4 its called the Azalia Codec, don't know if the DS3 has the same onboard sound though, so could be called summit else. :)

There was 3rd party drivers available for the sb live but they havent been updated and I very much doubt there is any for the xfi ufortunately

mmm i was going to order the ds3 and an xfi gamer card. Bit unsure as whether to now, never really like on board sound and always gone with a dedicated card. Whats the on board sound like on the ds3?

I got to admit, I hate my DS3/XFI setup.

The SoundCard issues have been a wonderful experience to get working... Get this...

The SoundCard does not work in ANY PCI Slot... At best, it works and then it forgets to work after a while on the top & Middle slots, but never on the bottom! - Ok, I can accept that, however, what it does, is fails to work after a restart... You install the driver,s and what does it need to do? restart! so when it comes back up, it sees a new card, automatically this time it installs the drivers for you and then.... Asks for a restart!!??!?!?!

Anyway, this is a real weird one to cure, but... If I use a TV Card in the middle slot, and the Audigy 2, 4 or XFI ( Been through them all - including the older ones, but my LiveDrive for those is black like the case and I use that ) in the top slot, everythign seems to be ok...

However... ( There is always a however when it comes to Creative drivvel ) ... I cannot play HL2 : Episode one for long because it hangs... Cannot get at any cause because it hangs in such a way as there is no kind of log that gets updated, and it requires powering off to get it back...

NeedForSpeed games dont install properly ( MW & Carbon seem to however ) and then when I do play them, they crash like crazy

My speakers ( Altec Lansing 955 ) dont have volume or headphone connections, so I find the LiveDrive very useful for that alone, plus Im still going through my LP / Tape collection converting them to MP3 and I find the LiveDrive useful for that too, plus I write music on my Atari and so, I have found uses for the LiveDrives MidiPorts, so I fell a little stuck and forced into using a creative, but I tell you this... I am pig sick of them.
