Hey, i have just bought one of the motherboard bundles from OcUK (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-036-OK )

I Set the kit up and booted up, the first thing i hear is a long single beep, im told this is to do with an mb error or memory, so i swap the sticks around, 1+3, 2+4, 1+2,3+4 etc... still the same, i also am asking gigabyte themselves for help but replys are taking ages, they suggested memtest, this proved the memory was ok.

I have read on here about the voltages needing to be highered for these sticks of ram so i also tryed that, still the same.

I have also updated the bios to the latest version as well.

Does anyone have any suggestions? at the moment im absolutely gutted because its slow also.

Thanks, Paul

Is it booting into Windows fine?

Also 2.1v is needed for that RAM. That's the +3 setting on the DS3.

Mine does a long beep after first switch on but it's the alarm to tell me the cpu fan has stopped. Just takes a few seconds to spin up and the beep stops then. Nothing like that is it?

yes i boots ok, its a bit slow actually running windows though, my 2ghz 64 bit amd ran faster :S

also i have already changed the voltage and this didnt stop the problem.

my cpu starts so cold most of the time that the fan doesnt kick in for about a minute, so i already have this option turned off in the bios

Doesn't work properly in my case, +0.2v does however - perhaps the same for some other people as well.

it looks like i cant do this now as i seem to have lost the protective cpu socket cover, now i cant send it back :(

Could this be anything to do with hdd settings? as im a beginner with sata, i have it plugged into the top yellow port on the board

And for a "Maxtor DiamondMax 20 80GB STM380811AS SATA-II 8MB Cache" (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-122-MD) do i need to change any bios settings? also the stock sata cables i presume are similar to ide ribbons in the respect that there is only one style an not different types.

The reason im asking about the hard drive is this may be the reason for windows being sluggish.

Thanks, Paul

If you contact me with your address on my trust e-mail I'll send you a CPU socket protector cover.

Thanks for the offer mate, but i talked to my mum nicely and she went through the bins lol. I have it, so im going give it a few days to see if anyone on here has any suggestions for a fix and then send it away next week i expect.

Did you do a load default settings after the bios upgrade, may be reset the cmos.
Try your hard disk in the purple slots seemed to work faster for me.

ok i will try this when i get home (im at work), what is the difference between the orange and purple slots?

orange slots are intels sata controller, purple is gigabytes sata controller

you say windows runs slow, have you installed all the drivers off the cd + latest video card drivers etc

what temps u getting overheating can cause slowdowns

i have changed to the purple slots and no change.

i have installed all drivers on the disk and also updated the ones i could,

my cpu temp is 30 c,

What types of settings should i have in easytune? or any to change in the bios like fsb, memory frequency etc... (i havent changed any of this yet)

when my system is loading into windows (after i type my password) i pressed crtl+alt+delete to get the cpu usage and it was at 100% is this normal for a clean install of windows???

No, find out what process is using 100%, likely the cause of your slow windows!

i think im going to reinstall windows as i believe i have had this before, like a bad install. - its coming with 100% with just explorer, svchost and other such windows processes.

im now starting to believe my strange beep IS due to the cpu fan not running (although the warning option is off) is there a way to ensure that the cpu fan is always on at boot? this way i can eliminate it etc... because as soon as the cpu fan suddenly spins up to 100% and then back down to a slow pace it stops beeping.

Also does this look correct:

i the code name is suppsed to be allendale (on the site) im sure that means nothing but still wrong.

Hi mate, Your cpu settings and ram settings dont look right to me your cpu is running at 1.6ghz should be 1.86ghz cpu multiplyer should be x7 not x6. Ram shoud be running at 266mhz not 399mhz with 4,4,4,12 settings for a stock system have u changed anything in the bios or were they the settings it gave u.
Did you do a load default settings that should put eveything back to stock.
The cpu fan wont spin until the cpu gets to a certin temp you can overide this is the bios though what cpu fan do you have?

i havent changed any settings other than to change the floppy option to none the boot order to hard disk, disabled, disabled (basically only one boot device)

i have reset cmos with the jumper and reflashed my bios this afternoon and all settings are defaults, as where before i believe.

everything is currently running at stock and the multiplyer is still at x6

can i make it so that it will start at room temp this way it should start the second i switch on. because at the moment it beeps for a second or two and then kicks in. my cpu fan is an Akasa EVO Blue (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-035-AK&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=821) - this was happening with the stock cpu fan too though.

Ok mate try this

1.In the PC Health Status menu, set the FAN Speed Control Method to "Legacy" & FAN Speed Control Mode to "PWM" to maintain highest speed.

2. These boards have a default VDIMM of 1.8v, set the VDIMM to co-ordinate with your ram. The Geil I have is specced as 2.1v so I have mine set to +0.3v

3. Set the CPU Host Clock Control to "Enable"

4. Set the System Memory Multiplier to "2x"

5. Set the cpu multiplier to x7 and fsb spped to 266mhz(should be this anyway)

6. Press ctrl + f1 to get access to the memory timings set them to 4,4,4,12 for the first four settings leave the rest as they are.

leave all voltages at auto

im just about to hit save, but just before i do i wanted to check that the fsb speed is the same as cpu host frequency as at the moment this is 100 so i dont want anything to go bang because i dont really know much about changing this stuff.

at the moment i have:

Robust Graphics Booster - Auto - unchanged
CPU Clock Ratio - X7 - unchanged
CPU Host Clock Control - Enabled - was disabled
Cpu Host Frequency - 100 - i want to check this is the fsb.
PCI Express frequency - auto
CIA 2 - Disabled
System memory multiplier - 2.00
system voltage control - auto
dram timing selectable - auto - unchanged
ddr2 overvoltage - +0.3 (changed purple once above .2)
all the rest are dimmed out

is the 4,4,4,12 cas latency time, dram ras to cas delay etc... ? like to change dram timing selectable to manual?

sorry for my stupidness, i dont have much to do with these settings and my last system i built was more basic in respect to settings and worked first time.

Yes.

If CPU-Z shows a multiplier ox x6 once in Windows then you'll need to turn off Speedstep in BIOS or just know that the CPU is 'throttled to x6 when not under load.

1. Make sure that you have the latest chipset drivers and flash the board to the most recent bios version
2. On the main bios screen press Ctrl+F1 to open the advanced options within the menus
3. In the Advanced Bios Features Menu, Disable all of the following: CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E), CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2), CPU EIST Function
4. In the PC Health Status menu, set the FAN Speed Control Method to "Legacy" & FAN Speed Control Mode to "PWM" to maintain highest speed
5. Go into the MB Intelligent Tweaker (MIT) menu at the bottom of the page, set the System voltage control to "Manual"
6. These boards have a default VDIMM of 1.8v, set the VDIMM to co-ordinate with your ram. The Geil I have is specced as 2.1v so I have mine set to +0.3v
