I have a Type-R 530w and it runs a E6400 @ 2.4Ghz, 2GB RAM and a X800 (X1800 is duff'ed) with 2 x SATA HDD, 1 SATA DVD-RW no problems at all.

But there's a thread somewhere around here and a few people have had bad expirences with the Type-R PSU's (its been active today). But don't forget a bad word gets passed around 10 x more than a good word ;)

Just some 600w one from xxxxx;

"Sansun Black 600W PSU - 20/24pin SATA" brand new from ze stock cupboard at work :D

Should be suitable for my needs.

Sansun, the new Qtec! When it blows you'd better pray it doesn't take components out with it.

Replace your power supply, your problems may repeat but at least you know you have a good PSU...you have spent a lot of the rest and skimped on the PSU, you dont see Ferrari's down kiwk fit having cheap nasty tyres fitted?

Power problems could have affected the hard disk while writing and courpted a file.

Try working in a PC repair shop for 2 years, you soon pick up a lot and understand why a decent PSU counts.
