Gigabyte 980ti Xtreme Core Clock Question

I've been benching my new card in my old i7 2700k rig whilst building up the 6700k upgrade.

I'm curious about the reported clock speeds on the Xtreme card which both Afterburner and Firestroke are showing as 1443. I thought the boost clock on the Xtreme card was 1317? I havent applied any overclock, Afterburner shows 0 offset against both core and mem, so what gives?

I'm not complaining as the card is a real beast and hasn't gone over 66c so far, but I'm curious whether this is an error in the reporting or whether something strange is happening in the card bios (I may have hit the BIOS button once or twice whilst installing it)...

Boost 2.0 is to thank. Something found on all the 980Ti's and most maxwell cards in general. When you have headroom on the thermal and power side it will automatically boost the over clock to provide better performance. If things get too hot it will automatically adjust.

Normally with the better coolers this can result in an even nicer boost!

Boost 2.0 is to thank. Something found on all the 980Ti's and most maxwell cards in general. When you have headroom on the thermal and power side it will automatically boost the over clock to provide better performance. If things get too hot it will automatically adjust.

Normally with the better coolers this can result in an even nicer boost!

It is also on most 700 series cards though they don't behave quite the same as Maxwell. (Hence my rant about 780s as most review sites "updated" results do not reflect what revision 2 780s can manage with boost 2.0).

Essentially the quoted boost clock is the guaranteed boost clock under normal conditions and the cards will typically boost to 3-7% above that for reference cards (3rd party cooling/factory oc will result in different levels of additional boost).

My GTX980 G1 boosts way past what I have clocked it to as well, I was surprised when I saw just how far. GPUZ says it is clocked to 1440 but in a demanding game it says 1535 or a little more.

At stock my Gigabyte G1 is rated at 1291 boost yet goes up to 1354. With an OC the stated boost clock is 1411 yet it goes to 1500. Sounds like you have a very capable card there.

Yeah generally these will do 100mhz over what they are set to
If its doing 1450@66C it sou ds like you still have plenty of headroom to push it further

Never really pushed my 980 to see how far it would go, perhaps I should. That 1535 is with the fans on auto as well
