I have been an avid AMD fan for years now, but i have been told that crossing the Intel threshhold could be the best thing i can do.

So Ive decided to try Intel and will be gettin a 6600 duo thing.
However Ive been out the loop for a long time now (about 6 months) and ive not a clue whats good any more.

Ive looked at the Gigabyte GA_965P_DQ6 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-058-GI) and I found myself to be impressed.

I need a board that supports DDR2, SATA2 and PCI-E. Also needs to have onboard LAN, and audio.

Ive been informed that the new Intels will over clock to buggery if required to, and I would like a board that could handle some overclocking-age as well as my spec mentions above.

will this board support my challenge?

Yes that board is very good, I have a gigabyte DS4 and can get 3.8 out of my x6800, and I like the board, but thinking about getting a Intel Bad Axe again, maybe in the future if I need duel graphics

Thanks for ** input :-)

anyone got any other views, please share cause i will be buying componants this week or next.

Just watch out for the memory issue (make sure it is supported) on the default bios and you should be fine :)

It supports DDR2 ram apparently so I'll be buying new RAM too.

Or what that not what you meant?

On another subject regarding this board, Ive seen a review which says that it has four external Sata2 3Gb/sec ports for expandibility. What does this actually mean?

Will I be able to whack on a SATA2 internal HDD or somethin else.

The review can be found here: Review

hmmm....ok any idea what RAM would be appropriate then?

I think that eSata thing is sata ports on the back of your pc for plugging in external drives :) incase your internal bays are full and you dont want to use usb2 or firewire :)

right!

so just so its clear in my mind, will i be able to buy a SATA2 HDD and put it inside connected to one of my 8 SATA sockets

ok,

ive decided on what i class as the important bit of the system spec! I'll be keepin the machine for a minimum of a year (maybe with the odd RAM upgrade here and there)

let me kow what you think.

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache

Gigabyte GA_965P_DQ6 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

1GB DDR2 RAM (not decided what type)

Graphics (dunno)
