Hi folks,

I have had my eye on the above monitor for some time. It's price has hovered between £800 and £900 since I spotted it, but its now dropped to £690 on OCUK (here). I've looked at reviews for it which are pretty good, and I'm happy with a VA panel.

The reason I had been looking at this monitor in particular was that it was 43 inches. I have a new gaming desk which is pretty deep and I can sit anywhere between 1 to 1.25 meters away from the screen. I currently use a 32" 1440p monitor, which is fine but could be be bigger given I have the desk real estate and depth now, and I've always wanted to have 4k as an option for gaming, so a 43" 4k 144hz monitor seemed perfect for my needs. My gaming PC (RTX3080, i7 12700k, 32GB) is mainly used for just that, gaming. Otherwise, I would just do some browsing on it but do not use it for work.

I did not plan to move to this monitor until the latest graphics cards would allow me to get over 100 FPS at 4k, but this price drop is very tempting. My question is this: is this now a good deal for this monitor, or are there now better monitors that have come along in recent months such that I shouldn't be swayed by this?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.

When you say its glossy, do you mean the screen itself? I game in a pretty dark room with a north facing window, so thankfully sunlight is not an issue for me when gaming. In terms of angles, I only ever sit straight-on and more or less at a level height.

Would there be something better than this in the 42/43" category (4k, 144hz) that might be better to look at?

Thanks for this man. I think for the moment I will hold fire for the moment. I do think that its flaws are probably not a big issue for me (I am on a £300 VA panel at the moment), but with the noise around QD-OLED, mini LED etc I might do a wee bit more research to make sure I fully understand what's out there, pros/cons etc. Thanks for your help :)

If you have the budget for it and are happy to drop down to 3440x1440, then the QD-OLED blows the FV43U away in terms of picture quality :)

I did find a YouTube video which was a recording of a QD-OLED next to the FV43U which was quite good. Now obviously there are issues with this; you are watching a video recording, which has been compressed, and doing so via another monitor which affects everything. That said, it was still a useful video and I really found my eye drawn to the FV43U (I do like bright colours lol).

What I would prefer if possible of course would be to see them side by side in real life - particularly to see what the better picture quality you mention really looks like.

At the moment, I am using a slightly old version of the LG 32" 32GN600-B which you can find on OCUK website. I moved to this from a very old TN monitor (can't remember the name, but it was that ASUS one from like 10 years ago which was the very first 1440p 144hz g-sync monitor). I remember being blown away by how much better this LG VA panel was to the old monitor.

Starting to come back around to the idea of picking this FV43U up!
