Gigabyte cpu cover?

Just about to install a cpu into my friends motherboard, it didn't look like it had a cpu cover but when I put the cpu into the socket it seems the side closest to the ram slots is raised too high?

its a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P

did you make sure to line the pins up,so it fall in to place?

yeah I dropped in the cpu with the leaver up? and then pushed it down when the cpu was in. I was just wondering cause the socket didn't have a cover on it.

It looks like its missing the cooler retention bracket, are you planning on using the stock cooler or an after market cooler? Other than that it looks fine

edit: actually just checked on the Gigabyte product page that looks exactly how its supposed to

Yeah, we're using the stock cooler. It didn't look like it had a cover on the socket, and when we put the cpu in, it didn't look like it was sitting properly - some of the pins on the side were exposed.

Do you have the cpu the right way around? there's a gold corner on the cpu that lines it with a marking on the socket

yeah we've got the golden corner matched up to the arrow on the motherboard. However the cpu is rocking as if its not sitting properly.

Lift the processor back out and have a close look, are there any bent pins?

Umm I'm running out of ideas. Try lifting the latch and giving the processor a gentle wiggle and see if it drops in

Its really wierd, we've double checked and it seems that nothing is wrong with the pins. The golden arrow is matching the one on the motherboard.

Is it a correct cpu for that socket?
Maybe too many pins?
Anything left in any of the pinholes?
