Hiya all,
I took delivery of my new samsung 250gb SATA drive about an hour ago and quickly plugged it into the mother board. Now I already have my old IDE drive with windows on wich is still the boot drive. When I activate the option RAID/IDE or AHCI mode in the bios windows crashes just after the splash screen appears. I really was hoping to get windows running on my old HD with the SATA drive detected by windows. Then close my old HD to the new one and set the SATA as boot drive. I have installedthe gigabyte SATA drivers from my cd and also downloaded the same drivers from there website and installed those.
I'm guessing that RAID/IDE mode in the bios is the correct mode as I will still be using the IDE port for my dvd drive. I'm using the f7 bios and I have connected my SATA drive to the purple SATA port on the mobo, theres 3 other ports that are orange does that make a difference?
Surely I should be able to boot windows from my old drive and have the SATA as a second drive untill I transfer my stuff? the problem I have is that I dont have a floppy drive anymore and it sems the only way to install SATA drivers when reinstalling windows XP
If any one can give me a few hints as to whats going wrong I would be most thankful.
Cheers.
