Gigabyte DS3 (rev. 1) IDE Issues

Hello all,

I wonder if someone could help.

I have a Gigabyte DS3 (r1) setup, with a Raid 0 off of the purple (Gigabtye) controller which works fine.

I also have an IDE Hard Drive and DVD drive.

The problem I have is that the Raid works fine, as does the DVD drive, however the internal IDE hard drive is not detected in windows. It shows in computer management but states that there is an error (it fails to pick up the drive size or format).

Strangely the drive is detected in the raid configuration. I know the drive works and I would love to get it setup in Vista correctly without having to resort to an external connection.

I think it must be a Bios setting, but I've almost given up trying to work it out. Any DS3 experts out there :D

Cheers for reading!

Weemee!

How are the HDD & optical drive set on the IDE cable?

Does any device work if on the cable by itself?

Try making the HDD Master (end of cable) and optical drive as Slave, make sure the jumpers corresspond to master/slave cable position.

If that does not work try Cable Select for each device. :)

Does the IDE drive work if you unplug the DVD. Also can you try a different power connector?

Hi,

Thanks for answering. There does not appear to be a power problem as it is spinning away happily. I'll try unplugging the dvd drive to see if it helps.

...i should add that under XP I had all 3 drives plus the dvd drive in place, only no raid configuration and it was working ok. I've not moved either the DVD or IDE drive. It was when I enabled the raid (possibly enabling something else), that the drive disappeared.

I've found this screen shot http://www.spongedpics.com/upload/WM1189753657W46ea3339b9b9d-biosahci.jpg of the bios in question. Mine is currently set to the following;

SATA ACHI mode : disabled
SATA Port0-3 Native Mode: Legacy Mode
Onboard SATA/IDE device:
Onboard SATA/IDE Control Mode: Raid/IDE

Is this any help?

Thanks again, I apreciate everyone time :D

Hi all,

Quick update. I fixed the problem. The drive had been converted to be a 'Dynamic Drive' and, by all accounts, Vista HP is unable to read these drives :(

Thanks all,

Weemee
