Gigabyte DS3P Cycl Reboot - or Me Too

I had the same problem with a DQ6, it would boot every time with a PCI graphics card, soon as I put the PCIE card back in it would go into the endless booting loop again. If you could get a PCI card you should be able to boot up then at least you would be able to flash the bios, if its still the same after a bios flash ask for an RMA.

I'm sure I have a Matrox PCI card at work rotting in a drawer - but I won't be going into the office till next week, could have lent it to the OP as I also live in London.

1 last thought - have you tried booting up with the HSF fan either not connected or plugged into another mobo connector apart from the 1 intended for the CPU?

Yes I tried that last night, connecting it to the system fan. Made no difference except I didn't get that last spin burst as it powers down.

Personally, I'm sick of these Gigabyte boards. I've had nothing but problems. The first managed to get stuck on the RAID controller and wouldn't boot, so that was RMA'd, one weekend gone. The next ended in a cyclic boot and I just couldn't fix it. So, that was RMA'd and a refund is being paid out. What's worse is that I activated a Windows XP Pro OEM on that PC, so that's £90 down the spout. I'm going to go for a name I can trust with a chipset from someone I've used before. I'll probably go for an Asus 680i. I've always thought Gigabyte were cheap and tacky and this just confirms it.

Agreed sadly, I thankfully got rid of my problematic DS3 not long ago. It's a shame as they look so good on paper and reasonably cheap too, I guess you get what you pay for.

Ummn, it uses a Intel 965P chipset

Asus P5B-D is what you should get TBH. Works a treat once at latest BIOS, SATA DVD-RW and a sound card :D

???

Chipset:
NVIDIA nForce® 680i SLI™
* Support SLI-Ready Memory Technology

P5N32-E SLI 680i?

i have been having this recently on my DS3P... i thought it was me pushing overclocks too much... my way to get around it which seems to work every time (and i say every time cuz it really does happen a lot while i'm changing overclock stuff) is to wait until just before it will reset (not hard to judge) and press the reset button...

it then boots normally but with stock fsb etc, which i then flick back to how i want em...

this in interesting, it means maybe i'm not hitting top ends like i thought i was and maybe there is more to be had :)

I was talking about the DS3.

You said "a name I can trust with a chipset from someone I've used before"

965 is one of the best around atm tbh.

Currently running an nforce4 DFI LanParty, so hence going for the Asus with a 680i chipset. I meant that I've used Asus before and also used several boards with nforce chipsets, hence I trust them more. I've always steered clear of Gigabyte, basically because I thought they were cheap and cheerful and two RMA's in two weeks confirms those suspicions to me. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

Hi there, my MSI P965 Platinum board went the same way reboots about every second, wont get to post, i've also read about some Asus boards doing the same thing, I've tried everything under the sun, except one idea that sounded to strange to be true, put the motherboard in the freezer for 15 min, not sure if that would work or not, bit scared to try in case something even worse happens. But the problem seems to be associated with all the p965 boards not just Gigabyte.

Just to finish this thread off (at least as far as I'm concerned, although please continue if you like) a PCI gfx card made no difference and I think its safe to say that the only people who _might_ be able to get this mobo to boot are the technicians at gigabyte. Thanks everyone for your help and see you all in other threads.

I'm suffering the exact same problem as dancer, on my DS3P. Tried all that has been suggested. All i did was add a fan to the NB heatsink and the machine wont boot, just power on then off, repeat.

Dancer, did you RMA in the end ?
