when installing sata drives do you use the purple for the main drive and the orange for the others or just as they come..

not running raid just installing drives

It depends on which DS4 you have, but normally Gigabyte use *** purple coloured sata terminal for their additional raid controller, where as the orange terminals are normally from the main chipset. Most main chipsets are suported natively by Vista, so you would not need to initially load any extra drivers for drives attached to the orange terminals. The purples ones are far more likely to requir additional drivers to work

Use the orange(intel) controllers where possible. Better performance.

thanks i am but xp is having trouble seeing the new 1tb drive even when plugged in the same position as one that was working............it sees it in the hardware but doesn't show upon my computer as the drive.

Have you initialized and formatted via Disk Management it yet?

no i hadn't as i thought it needed to show first..

but since looked it up and its now formatting...

thanks for all your help though...one disc is still not working at all won't even boot with it installed with the power connected..will return it tomorrow..
