Occasionally when I open the Hardware Monitor tab I get the following error:

The system temperature warning of -1C is bound to be false as I don't suffer from any crashes or anything.

Anyway, it is accompanied by this error report:

I have googled 4838_appcompat.text but there were no results!

Usually when I reboot the PC, the problem disappears for a while.

I ran a Search and it found 2 entries for the file and they both appear to be temporary internet files which when I attempt to open them I see the IE warning (below):

I have had this problem occuring for ages now and so out of curiosity, I'm hoping someone knows why it happens?

Thanks in advance :)

Could it be a failed temp sensor? One way to check is to install MBM5 (motherboard monitor) and see what results it gives. If the same then that could be it. But if MBM shows accurate readings then hmm not sure.

I have just installed MBM5 and I was quite alarmed to see this:

As you can see, my CPU isn't overheating at 45C and my system temperature is at a 'normal' temperature of 37C but I haven't ever seen the system fan speed at 0 RPM before

I usually see a speed of around 1200 RPM.
Is this serious?

The strange thing is although my system fan is no longer working, my system temperature hasn't risen!

Another strange thing that I noticed was that the SYS FAN connector has 2 wires (one black and one white) which are connected to my PSU where the thick braided cabling leaves the PSU.

I never took any notice before!
I find it strange that the PSU is connected to the SYS FAN connector and the only conclusion I can reach is that it operates the PSU fan?

if this is the case then I don't understand it as the PSU fan is working!
It is at the base of the PSU above the CPU HSF.

I also noticed that the Power FAN connector isn't in use and it's not surprising, as where the connector is located on the motherboard, my fan (at the top of my case which is extracting the warm air) is too far away to reach the connector so I have it powered from a PSU connector instead.

I don't really understand what's happening

Where is my SYS FAN?
Is it the PSU fan?
If so then it is working meaning that the sensor probe must be faulty?

Any advice please? :o

p.s. I didn't build it!

Also I now get the warning back but for some reason both my CPU and SYS Fan speeds are around half the speed that they used to be i.e. the CPU used to be around 3125 rpm and the SYS fan around 1200 rpm

As a consequence I now have 2 warnings even though nothing is overheating:

I am just going to ignore the warnings and keep an eye on the MBM5 readings which are visible on the taskbar.
It's good news that both MBM5 and ET4 both show my temperatures as normal so I'm not going to worry about it.

There is nothing to worry about as after exploring the MBM5 options I can see that the fans are both working correctly as they are correctly reported in the System Info section of MBM5:

I can't understand why ET4 isn't correctly picking up my fan temperatures so I am going to uninstall it and use MBM5 instead.
