Gigabyte EP45-UD3R Using Default Clocks Instead of Overclocking

Hi,

I've got a problem overclocking my E8400 on a Gigabyte EP-45-UDR3 ..... none of the settings I put in actually overclocks anything and the CPU stays at its default 3.00GHz speed .... I used to have this on 3.4 GHz

Basically I use the M.I.T. on the BIOS, adjust the settings and nothing sticks. Its like something is limiting the overclock back to default settings.

The only change I can think of is that I was using Geil Ultra 2GB RAM which worked for overclocking but then I upgraded to Kingston HyperX 4GB RAM and only just recently noticed my clocks have gone down.

I've upgraded to the latest firmware for the board which is F12 but none of the overclocks stays and it boots up on default clocks :(

Anyone got an idea what might be happening here?

Are you selecting "Save Changes and Exit" or something like that once you adjusted the settings?

Yeah ofc :p ... when I boot up, the screen still says (333MHz X 9) but when I go into the BIOS the settings they are the saved overclocked settings.

Yeah it was a silly question. You should use CPU-Z in windows to see the exact speed. Also disable SpeedStep in the BIOS....I always disable it when I overclock.

Switched memory and that did the trick.

The Kingston HyperX modules were hard locked by the SPD at 800MHz at 5-5-5-18, these are the 1066MHz rated PC2-8500 modules (KHX8500D2K2/4G) that "can" run as at 1066 as long as you up the voltage to 2.2v and set the timings to 5-5-5-15.

Once I switched to a set of Patriot Vipers, I could overclock my CPU (E8400 at 3.5GHz on air) with a custom memory bus (currently on 778MHz). :D
