I have been having this problem on and of with my new build of 6 weeks, system in sig. Basically i will turn my PC on from a cold boot, and i wont be connected to the internet via the ethernet connection on the back of the PC, it will have a yellow triangle with an '!' mark in the middle on the system tray. Now heres where 2 things happen, if i click on the network icon and bring up the 'Network and Sharing Center' screen it will either say, that the network is unidentified (should be Home network usually with the icon of a house), or it will display a red 'X' between the 'Network' and 'Internet' icons on the Network and Sharing Center page.

Now sometimes to get my network identified i have to unplug the ethernet cable and either plug it back in, if this doesnt work then i have to plug it into the 2nd ethernet port on the back of the PC, sometime this works some times it doesnt, in which case i turn the whole system off and unplug it from the wall, and make sure there is not stored power in my Virgin modem, and then turn it back on in 2 minutes.

This happened to me this morning, turn the PC on, no internet. Check Network and sharing center, had my network as identified (Home) and had the red 'X' between the network and internet icons. So i powered down the PC turn it back on after 2 minutes, and still no internet connection, looked at the network and sharing center, and this time couldnt identifiy my network (had an icon of a park bench??), so i unplugged the cable and plugged it back in, same problem, took it out again and then plugged it into the other ethernet port, this time it identified my network and also the internet, thank god!!!

Now i have this problem probably 2-4 times a month, but this happened yesterday and again today, so i thought i post a thread to see if anyone had any ideas, never had this sort of problem on my last build at all, any suggestions??

Seems a bit random but I guess I would make sure the LAN driver was the latest from the GIG website.....

Make sure all your updates have come through and are installed from MS ( I only mention as my connection was a bit flakey and they pushed a new drive through that helped out loads) Win 7 mind

What happens if you give your self a STATIC IP - seems like occaisionally your router has probs giving an IP out the desktop? Try that aswell.

Let me know - ta

Ive always had the problem when i gave my pc a static IP, i could never get it to connect, not sure why though

I had this problem. The culprit was the latest drivers from microsoft update.

I had to roll back the original drivers and ignore the latest ones from update. PITA I know but my lan ports work as there meant to with the older drivers from the disc.

I had problems with LAN ports on the UD5 I had, I read some where it was a common problem.

Sometimes after turning the machine on the LAN ports were dead, no lights on them at all, had to power off and try again.

from an older post:

I Had this kind of problem on another asus board, with a single ethernet port, I would have
to disable and re-enable the adapter, or plug in and out. The problem ended up being with
powersaving options, try this
go to -> open network (taskbar) -> change adapter settings (on the left) -> properties on adapter you want -> configure -> power management -> untick all boxs -> restart pray?

This worked for me and seems like the same sort of problem I had, good luck.

I had exactly the same problems, I just ignore the new driver update in MS updates. Everytime I install that driver I end up rolling back to the pervious version.

I suppose once it's working there is no real need to upgrade the driver.

Hi lettuce had various prob's with internet, found out it was the latest drivers. Installed Win 7 orginal driver - Driver Version: 7.2.1127.2008 Date: 26/02/2008 no prob's since. :)

Correct-a-mondo.

I dont know if Gigabyte will bother fixing this but I had to jump through hoops, disabling and repairing the connection before it would see it
until I rolled back the driver and voila.

At the time apparently with Vista yes,... but I have subsequently moved on to win 7 from vista and have had no problems.

To be fair I havent see/noticed an update on win 7 but it definitely was the culprit on vista x64 for me.
