Hi,

Trying to get a new i7 set up working but so far no joy. Won't even get to POST screen.

I'm hoping someone out there has a list of of the codes for the POST LED's. The handbook has the codes as they appear on the POST screen but these don't seem to cover all the codes I see on the MB's own LED display.

Gigabyte website doesn't seem to have them either.

I'm a bit loathed to start pulling everything apart without knowing what the codes are.

Codes vary every time I start it up but a common one seems to be b8.

Please help.

Iirc The codes you should see upon successfull boot are:

CF, C1, 25, 26, 58, FF.

That what mine does anyway.

Here's what I think the codes mean:

C1 is a memory check, if it gets stuck here then your memory is at fault.
25= innitialise VGA
26 = POST complete
58 = BIOS
FF = booting/normal operation.

Dunno what the others mean and I have never seen b8:confused:.

I had that code when I first switched my ud5 on.

Not sure what it meant and like you I could not see it in the book.
However I did have hard drives in raid from a previous vista install so I just assumed it was just stalling at the OS part of boot.

Do you have your ram in the white slots?. I heard there were errors if you put the ram in those blue slots.

I have 6 sticks of RAM so all slots used.

Am going to try with just three sticks and as per instruction manual, they in white slots.

I had two EVGA 260's in SLI to begin with but same code when using just one.

Don't suppose I'm going to hear back from Gigabyte till Tuesday now, arse.

Ok. With just 3 sticks of RAM it all seems to work ok so I'm guessing b8 is to do with RAM.

If I hear back from Gigabyte I'll let you know.

Update:

System has been set up, OS installed, updated, drivers etc.

Works ok with 3 or 4 sticks of RAM but not all 6. All sticks have been checked and all work ok so now I just need to hear back from Gigabyte to find out what the code is and hopefully what the issue is with running 6 sticks.

Good to hear. Forgot to ask but are you using the latest F6 bios?.

Hope you get it sorted. THe only problem I am having is my LG blu-ray drive opening and closing on it own since installing the gigabyte. Gets on your wick I'l tell you

Only time the motherboard is "stuck" on a POST code is when there ... Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 XFX Gtx 260 "Black Edition" ... My Method for Clearing the CMOS is posted in this thread and you do not need into the BIOS to do so >>> .... I mean, you don't launch a motherboard specifically designed for a

Solved, in a manner of speaking.

Updating the Bios to F6 seems to have done the trick so many thanks Chris.

All appears to work now. Boots up into Vista with all 6 sticks of RAM installed (total of 12GB). Only issue left is to find out why memory is showing as 10600 when it should be 16000 but I'll leave that for another thread.

Thanks for all your help.

If I do manage to get that list of post codes (LED ones) I'll add them here.

So glad to hear and happy to help.

When I received the board and cpu on Friday past, I couldnt get my ram to to run at its rated speed.

The following morning I searched on the gigabyte forums and before I knew it, I had my ram running at its rated speed but also a very nice overclock to boot.

Try this mr jmm. In bios, choosing the first option (intelligent tweaker....) look for 'SYSTEM MEMORY MULTIPLYER' and set that at 8.

Scroll up and select 'UNCORE & QPI FEATURES'. Now I am led to believe that which option you select, be it 6 or 8. You need to enter the 'UNCORE FREQUENCY' to double the amount you selected. Unfortunately there is some kind of logical something or other that wont work and therefore you have to double the amount and add '1'. In yours and mine we select '17' (8x2+1). This should get your ram running at 1600mhz.

Sorry for the long winded explination.

Chris
