Hi all, i'm new to these forums and new to PC's in general actually so please bear with me if my questions seem a little basic.
I recently finished my first build using a Gigabyte GA-77-DS3H motherboard. The manual says that it is capable of 7.1 channel audio but there are only three jack sockets on the actual mobo (pink, green, blue). The manual says "To configure 7.1-channel audio you have to use an HD front panel audio module". I built my PC in a Cooler Master CM690ii Advanced Black & White Edition which ,according to the manual, has a front I/O panel which supports HD/AC97 audio. There are two jack sockets on the front, one marked as headphones one marked as microphone. On the cable which connects the front I/O panel to the mobo there are two connectors, one marked as HD_AUDIO and one marked as AC'97. I currently have the HD_AUDIO connector plugged into a green socket on the mobo which is marked F_AUDIO. My question is which of these connectors is the correct one to use to enable the 7.1 audio and do I just plug it into the same green F_AUDIO socket? Will this then convert the two front jack sockets into the extra ones I need for 7.1 audio? I need to know because I wish to buy a surround sound headset for gaming. I don't know if anyone may need to know all the components i'm using in my PC so here they are anyway;
