I am looking at the Ga 945PL S3 as a cheap board for a new system along with a core 2 duo after reading a good review about the board,

One thing the review failed to point out, and i found on Gigabytes web site, the 945 chip set is limited to 800Mhz but is core2duo and extreme ready,

As the core 2 CPU's are 1066Mhz isnt this board going to run it rather slow or am i looking at it wrong ?

Not all 945 chipsets are limited to 800MHz FSB. The GA-945P-S3 rev 2 certainly supports 1066MHz although the rev 1 didn't. Similarly, there's a later version of the Asus P5LD2-SE that supports 1066MHz. You need to look at the specific 945 boards to see exactly what they support.

Do you know the rev 2 does 1066 from experiance or reading it some were?
Thanks

Edit

Just noticed youlisted the 945P not the 945PL - it seems to be the L that makes the differance.
Cant imagine there being much in it between the GA-945PL-S3 and the GA-945P-S3

I can confirm that the GA-945P-S3 rev 2 does 1066, as I have one!
I bought it by accident, didn't pay attention and got the 945P instead of the 965P (Stoooopid!).
Running with E6300 + OcUK 2 x 1GB PC6400 @ 2.5GHz no sweat, haven't pushed it at all because I don't see the point when I have a 965P on the way, so it may well go faster.

As an aside I'm selling it as soon as my 965P arrives next week, let me know if you're interested, it's only a month old.

Email in trust :)

I will keep that in mind but the system isnt for me and i expect they would prefer to buy new, but i will mention it.
Think i will opt for the 945P over the 945PL the L must stand for Low FSB.

I have one and have used it with an E6300 which ran at its rated speed. Mind you, the only reason I bought it was because I got 2GB of DDR2/400 for £75 and needed a board that would support it. I downloaded the manual for the PL rev 2 which says that board still only has 800MHz FSB.

I have a 945p and a e6300 and would very much like your advice for getting it to 2.5ghz. This is my first try at overclocking, so I would really appricate the help.
