No you shouldn't have to update the BIOS to run your E6600. The P965 chipset was designed for the Conroes. But it's always a good idea to run a newish BIOS anyway.

The best way to update the BIOS is to put the BIOS file on a floppy/CD/memory stick and use the Q-Flash option in the BIOS to flash it. Or you can use the Gigabyte @BIOS utility to update from Windows.

well i upgrade from my e6300 to e6600 today but my computer won't boot right with the 6600, there is no beep from the mobo but all the fans power up but i get no picture on the screen and stuff like the keyboard obviously arn't getting power as i can't even turn Num Lock on you think it's my mobo's fault or is the chip dead?

Try clearing the CMOS.

Other than that, ensure the CPU is seated correctly and everything is plugged in.

how do i clear the CMOS?

yea it's seated right (tried 2 or 3 times now) and everthing is plugged in cause i swapped the chips back and my 6300 worked

You can either short the two pins beside the battery (your manual will show you what I'm talking about) or you can remove the battery for a couple of minutes.

You'll need to reset the clock and any other settings you have changed in the BIOS on first boot.

so i just shut down the computer, take the battery out of the mobo for a few mins then put it back in, power up and reset everythingin the bios to default?

and hopefully that would work?

Yeah and pull the power plug after shutting down.

No idea if it will work, but it's the first thing that should be tried.

Good stuff about the CPU :)

It's been raining here since about March. I was hoping the usual influx of weekend holidaymakers had heard something I hadn't.

Some chance

lol, I'll be living in Portstewart from september (finishing final year uni in Coleraine).

Mmm....since I'm such a novice at building PC's, could you come to my flat and build me my PC? :D

Er....lets see.

Well, in second year I stayed in the Lisadell area where all the student houses are. However, this year I'm closer to the actual town. If you picture where the police station is, on that side of the road closer into the town. Right next to that shop on the corner.

It's a 3 storey flat, I'll be on the top. It's an average, average flat but it's student accomodation so it's expected tbh.

You know Portstewart?

That'll be Bud's. Well within staggering distance of the Anchor :D

I lived in Old Mill Grange for a year (party capital of the north at the time), Millburn, Burnside Mews (just off the Mill Road), and then the old manse in Heathmount, (at the top of the promenade steps beside Morellis). The old manse is easily the best house in Portstewart. No neighbours other than the church and 10 seconds from the prom.

Cool, I stayed in lisadell avenue in 2nd year. Nice area, if you're a student anyway.

I would be lying if I said that the closeness to the anchor was not a deciding factor in me taking this house :D

They've done it up recently and is a class place to watch football and have a pint. Or seven.
