I've just invested in this GA-E350N Mainboard with built in cpu & 8Gb of Kingston HyperX Genesis 1600MHz for my nas 6b4 bit system but have a bit of a problem. The memory is only showing up as 3694MB on the startup screen and in FreeNas and not the 8gb, i've taken the the ram out and put them in one at a time and they both pick up separate. Is there some overclocking that has to be done for these boards to pick up 1600mhz ram?. I've been out of the pc building scene and overclocking has never been a strong point of mine so any help would be great.

System info below.

I have no experience of that software, does it not use as much RAM as it needs and so thats why you are left with 3694MB?

Its says on the Gigabyte website that it supports up to 16 GB of system memory DDR3 1333 (O.C.)/1066 MHz memory modules.

I gather where it says (O.C.)/1066 MHz memory modules it means the 1066 has to be overclocked but i don't know how to do this.

It does say that, but how much is freenas actually using? do you have a task manager that can tell you total physical memory and available memory?

Startup screen, do you mean the BIOS? or does FreeNAS tell you this?

Im not familiar with that board/CPU combo, but in the BIOS is there a MIT section which tells you info such as CPU speed/memory capacities

It may sound like a pain, but can you download and install another OS (Win8 has a free trial) and see what that says.

Yep i mean the bios screen, i've never had this board before. Infact its the first board i've brought since the first quad core came out.

So in the BIOS, there is a section like this?

Which says the memory capacity is 4GB?

Ive just had a look at the memory support list for the board, and the Kingston RAM you have linked too is on it.
