When starting up, this m/b hangs, showing a post error code of 5d.
I believe this is the stage when it initializes the onboard super IO and Audio.

I removed the Graphics card and an adaptor card and disconnected all drives, just leaving it with the processor and memory, but it still hung at 5d.

I'm assuming an onboard chip has failed and the board is as good as dead. Am I correct?

I'm not sure whether this is connected, but my LCD display also failed, probably at the same time! Now I'm wondering about the Graphics card too, but I can't test that without a motherboard!

Perhaps I also need to check my Power supply?

Any helpful suggestions?

Thanks.

Do the usual stuff,

ClearCMOS.

Use a single stick of ram and repeat this for the other sticks.

Thanks for the reminder.
However, cleared the CMOS, reduced memory to one stick in the 3-1 position and it still hung at 5d.
Swapped the memory for one of the other sticks - same result.

Well that board wont do anything without a graphics card in place, so you have put it back in? and then tried the stuff?

Pull out the two ATX connectors (24+8pin) and re-fit them.

Thanks again for the reminder.

I had assumed that it had stalled before initialising the graphics - stupid I know, but with the LCD failure I completely missed that.

Scrounged an older LCD, put back the graphics card and yes! it all works.

Thanks again for your clear advice to an old man who is perhaps starting to lose his marbles. To think I was once quite good at fault finding procedures, Oh well.
