Hey guys I really need some help diagnosing this problem with my computer.

About a week and a half ago my computer shutdown and restarted suddenly whilst watching a video, but upon restarting it doesn't display any type of image.

I firstly turned up the speakers loud to hear if the system booted into windows but I heard nothing. I then took my case off and started to take out the ram and use individual sticks, but still nothing.
I then tried reseating the graphics card and trying different pci-e slots, but that didn't work either.
I've now tried a different graphics card, and different psu and still nothing.

The motherboard reads 88 on the digital counter and I'm not too sure what this mrans, has anyone else who has this board had the same error? Any help would be really appreciated cheers.

A few things to try:

MAke sure you have connected the 4/8pin ATX cable correctly (it may have come loose).

Have you tried resetting the CMOS (the button on the backplate?). IF that doesn't work then remove the CMOS battery for 5 minutes, replace then try booting up.

The fault code is 8B though not 88 ;).

Hi thanks for the reply. The ATX cable is connected fine a and I've tried the CMOS button at the back of the MOBO, do you just press it or hold it in to reset the CMOS? Either way I tried both when it was powered on and in standby but it didn't make a difference. I haven't tried taking out the battery so thanks for the idea I'll try that next.

Yeah I thought it could be B8 or 8B nearly impossible to tell though lol.

Ok I've done it, and still the same effect....no display but everything powers up.

I've only got the bare essentials connects, 1 stick of ram, cpu/cooler, gfx card and psu and it doesn't boot. Ive tried to reset the cmos, taken the battery out tried different gfx card and different sticks of ram but nothing seems to work.

Is there any point in taking this to a specialist or would I be wasting my money?

The motherboard just reads 8B and hasn't booted since it suddenly restarted. Nothing is overclocked or anything like that and I only bought my computer from overclockers 1 and a half years ago.Totally gutted at the moment

I would suggest you RMA the motherboard. If you can get it in ASAP you should have your replacement before the end of next week. I was going to say before Christmas but with the weather I think that might be optimistic.

i turned my pc off about two weeks ago to put new sata dvd drive in and my pc would not turn back on no power .... did all the same tests and in the end it was my pc case

i went over everythink board out and rebuilt everythink. all wires was were they should be .....

so got a XIGMATEK Utgard pc case rebuilt then all worked

Thanks for the reply mate. The only thing with me is I completely rebuilt my system outside my case and it still didn't work. So I'm totally stumped. Would this be a motherboard problem? Thanks for all the help so far guys

how do you get it to start outside the pc case :) ?

Rub it vigoursly on a carpet for a few minutes which will then generate enough static electricty to jump start the mobo for a few milliseconds. (joke) :D:D:D

A PC does not need a case to work, you basicly set the pc up without a case.

I Think I'm about at the point of rubbing this motherboard on my carpet for somke sign of life.

I'm totally out of ideas, do you think I should get a new mobo? Or could this be another problem?
