Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L OC

Nope that board will overclock just fine.

Normally the reason your overclock is not working is because one part in the set up is not stable. You can check and see if this is the case in windows by the way. Download from Gigabyte the relevant overclocking utility for your motherboard and give it a whirl. Once you have found your sweet spot with the tuning utility then go into the bios and set them manually.

Remember to press f10 at the end and say yes.

Cheers

Use CPU-z or simply look at the physical motherboard it will tell you which version it is. F9 is the latest bios for ver1.4 and 1.3.

ok i have found this on cpu-z

and i checked everywhere on my physical motherboard and found nothing.

Well you could press the pause break key during the POST screen and you will see what revision it is.

What is noticeable is that your bios is an early version. Like I said the current bios is F9. If you do flash your bios please do not do so in Windows, use the qflash method. You can access that via your bios screen I seem to recall. Put your new bios on a USB stick and pop it in. Pretty easy to do.

ah ok i'll try and find the revision doing that then, what are the dangers of flashing the bios though, i have heard of it in like xbox's and stuff and sounds really dangerous.

Here is the page on there website for your exact motherboard revision. Book mark it so u know for sure ur allways on the right page.

The utility 1Day is talking about is called easy tune 6, and can be found in the download section on that page.

One note to 1Day though, i gave him 100% safe settings to try last night, and the clocks where just not sticking, it was reverting to stock even after saving and exiting the bios.

I do feel it may be a bios version issue myself, but have no experience of those boards at all.

But as suggested give easy tune a go.

in the bios updates it doesn't say anything about oc stability or whatever and since it has got dual bios doesn't that mean flashing the bios is totally safe?

Easy tune 6 allows you to overclock whilst still being in windows, its not as good as doing it via the bios, but it will atleast allow you to test things.

There never is any mention of overclock stuff in bios updates, 1Day or someone else will have to guide you through flashing the bios though, as like iv said before, i don't know gigabyte boards at all.

But if u are 100% saving then exiting, and its not sticking, that to me indicates a bios issue, and these are generally fixed by updating it.

Have cpu-z open at the same time to see if the fsb is changing at all when you hit save or what ever the button is called to make it run the settings.

ok i believe i have successfully flashed it, now should i try overclocking again?

Sorry for all the questions i just want to be safe than sorry. probably the best way to go.
