What 3rd party CPU coolers (air) will fit the Gigabyte GA X38 DQ6 without having to remove any of the cooling pipes?

It would be used with a Q6600, which would be overclocked.

Thanks. :)

oh ok. Well i used a Thermalright Ultra-120 on the last build i did with a GA X38 DQ6 :)

The "Thermalright Ultra-120" that you used, was that the "Ultra-120 eXtreme" or the Ultra-120A"?

I already have the "Ultra-120 eXtreme" but it says on the Motherboard Compatability List that the "Crazy Cool" needs to be removed (what I was referring to in my original post)....unfortunately there does not seem to be any compatability list for the "Ultra-120A"...:)

I belive both coolers are exactly the same size, with the "xtream" having extra heat pipes, so fitment should be the same for either.

Jabski:
Can that be mounted both horizontaly and verticly?

edit, Just realised, removing all that stuff is a bit much, a bit daunting, I may look at a different board now...

you only remove 2 small screws and then the backplate comes off allowing you to install a after market cooler. It you just want the stock intel cooler than the backplate can stay on.

i have the x38 and can confirm that the Sythe Ninja revb fits. however, the fan has to be attached from the bottom pointing to the top of the case. i.e. blowing through the heatsink up into the PSU fan. it will not fit blowing out the back because of the ram being in the way.

fitting the ninja gave me a 10 degree drop in temps compared to the stock HSF.

artic freezer 7 pro fits OK.

i bought a zalman and had to take the back plate off, cut off half of it so i could refit the heat pipes, it was a bloody nightmare!
