I'm just about to start putting together my new games-only comp. I've decided to go for a E0 stepping C2D 8500 (or 8400 if I can find a E0 stepping) and I need some advice about the mobo.

Having always had nothing but good experiences with Gigabyte boards in the past - I've decided to go for a GA-X48 (X48 because I intend to get an additional 1Gb 4850 card when I can afford it - probably in about 6 months or so). Cash is really tight and I can't afford the initial cost of a more powerful card like a 4870x2 or nVidia 280, so xfire is the way to go I think.

Question is - should I fork out the extra for the GA-X48-DS5, or use the money saved from getting the DS4 and get higher spec memory?

I intend to do some overclocking - but won't go crazy:p

I will say X48-DS4 because this is what I'm going to get for my rig instead of the EP45-DS4 I initially wanted to get. I'm also going with a 1gig 4850 and eventually xfire in the near future hence switch from p45 to x48 and I see no reason to fork out more than £150 on a mobo to xfire 4850s. So I would rather get better/more ram in your case. Hope it helps.
