Hi,

Just wondered whether anyone here had used a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R or UD5 or UD7 with 12GB of RAM?

Did you have any issues? Which did you buy?

Thanks,

Literally just upgraded to 12GB RAM today using a UD5. Stress testing been stable for 4hrs so far and I haven't had to change any of the BIOS settings since adding in the second kit (my i7 920 is at 4.2GHz).

I enjoy my 12 Gb of 2133 Mhz stuff tht was £220 :)

Worked fine on my UD5, but only does 1600 Mhz @ CAS 7, but thats still really good.

Did you get a decent clock on your CPU?

I had 4.2 Ghz on the UD5, currently can only manage 4.0 Ghz on the R3E without BSODs, but I'm hoping that a bios update will fix that.

You know you're absolutely barking mad when you worry over a 4.0 Ghz overclock on an I7 not being good enough :( :( :(.

Heres how it used to be:

Never had a single crash, temps were much lower when not stressing all 8 threads, and I found out later that it could handle 7-7-7-20 @ T1. The ram runs the same now on the R3E, but the CPU BSODs at 4.2 Ghz. It took several bios updates on the UD5 to get those clocks as well.

I agree. I spend ages trying to get my i7 stable at 4.6GHz then just gave up really. It's now at 4.2GHz and hasn't been above 45% usage, even when running multiple VM :D
