not sure how common this is but i frequently get startup problems where the computer will start to turn on then shut down a couple of times in a row then boots fine. Now and then when it does this it will have reset overclocks that have booted and run fine with no issues before.

is this a common issue and is there any way to fix it?

make sure all your drivers and software are up to date

If it's the same as what happens to me it does'nt get as far as that. I have the OC-UK I920 OC bundle and mine does what the OP's does. I would update the Bios but then i'd lose the overclocks(and the warranty). It's kinda annoying but I've never managed to have it not start and it's not frustrating enough to risk not getting my OC back.

I read it could be to do with the PSU not supplying enough voltage on start up, but I dunno. I have a 1000W corsair unit so I dont think it's that??

this happens to me - the reason it starts up at all is because of the second 'safety bios' feature. your overclocks are causing it - fiddle with them - its probably your memory.

i will say, however, that its a strange beast because my overclock is extremely stable but this still happens to me infrequently every few months.

Run the system at Default, i.e MI at standard if you get the Double Reboot at cold or system off for a while, RMA the board there is a Major Fault.. with the VRM ect.

i had a major issue with my first UD7 which had this even though i could Clock the 920Do to death and run stable, but cold boot i got a MI reset.. and no one could answer this issue, even the Gigabyte Main tech.. i Replaced board and now all is fine.

re:

This was a very common issue with the f9 bios, just update and all should be fine.

Unfortunatly i have had this board too long for this, and unfortunatly im about to become labelled as a student so im pretty much peniless :(

will give it a go, what im interested to know is why gigabyte havn't fixed the fault before their new mobo releases, it looks to me like such a common problem, surely they should know how to fix it by now?

found this on there website for anyone who is interested:

GIGABYTE X58 series motherboards may have compatibility issues with Intel Core i7 940 and 920 production version CPU, so we strongly recommend you to update the latest BIOS as following for better performance,
EX58-EXTREME BIOS version F3
EX58-UD5 BIOS version F3
EX58-DS4 BIOS version F3
You can use BIOS build-in Q-Flash utility, or Window based @BIOS utility to update BIOS.

Which is voided if the Bios is updated.. Alas I'm not confident enough to fiddle with the settings if copying them and putting them back doesn't work.

not really , if you return the Mb with supplied Bios any of the Big manufactures will not even bother looking, they will probably no the fault anyway as Loads have been returned for same fault.

Im on the F7 bios and my UD5 NEVER does it 4.2 oc. So bios and safety are out the window ;)

Hi everyone! First post on here - thought I would sign up after getting new computer from OCUK. Anyway this thread is interesting as it is very similar to some wierd behaviour ive seen on my new GA-X58A-UD7 (Rev 1), BIOS F6. I got an overclocked bundle with an i7 930 at 4.2ghz and its all running very well, no crashes or anything bad so far but there is somthing strange about boot up.

when i first power the computer on after disconnecting it from the wall it comes on for a moment about 1 second, all the fans start, lights flash etc then it powers off by itself for about a second then it comes back on again without me doing anything and stays on then proceeds to boot normally, it doesnt lose its settings or anything like that. it only does this if AC has been lost it doent haooen if i shut down then turn on again.

anyone got any ideas what this is about? is it meant to do that? does it indicate a problem? im using a BeQuiet dark power P8 900W psu if thats relevent. any ideas would be appreciated!

thanks.

always good to know :D

on a side note ive lost my memory stick, any other ways to fash the BIOS? (sorry, i know how bad a question that is)

Yes, do you have a floppy drive? You can also update via windows but this is very dangerous and not really advised. best to spend a fiver on a cheap usb stick.

It's the memory strap changing, completely normal and nothing to worry about. Why Gigabyte designed there boards to do this is beyond me. Most boards only do this once when the memory/QPI changes - dunno why it would happen when the AC power is lost though.
