Possibly a stupid question but if i get this board and fit a gtx 780 in the top 16x pcie express slot will the pcie slot next to it be free to fit a pcie soundcard (soundblaster x) in it or will it be blocked by the graphics card?

It will be blocked, but you can put the sound card in the last slot which is run from the chipset 16x(4x electrical) 2.0.
