I built my new PC about a month or so ago. It was a massive upgrade and I've been impressed with the performance. The only issue I have is what seems like a fairly common issue with Gigabyte Z87 boards at the moment, the rear USB ports have simply 'died'.

After the initial build they worked perfectly, I don't actually use that many USB devices but turned it on one day to notice my keyboard/mouse were unresponsive. Tried a couple of reboots/different ports etc. Absolutely no response in Windows 7 / OS X (Hackintosh) / Bios. The front USB 3.0 and USB 2 ports on my case (connected to motherboard internal headers) do work though so fortunately I am able to plug my kb/mouse into those for the time being.

I was considering returning it to Amazon for a refund within the first 30 days but having had to wait so long for it to actually be delivered in the first place (Amazon Logistics woes) I was thinking I'll just try and get it sorted out in the 3 year warranty with Gigabyte. I was also hoping that a new bios update may provide a fix, however F8 has come and not done that.

My questions are:

Has anyone managed to find a fix for this particular issue?

Do you think Gigabyte my releases a new revision of the board that I can get it replaced with in the future?

Specs: 4770K, GA-Z87X-UD5H, 16GB Corsair 1866MHz, 4GB Gigabyte 770 GTX, 2x Samsung EVO 250GB.

tried reflashing the bios? sometimes that cures things(settings are known to stick sometimes on z77 anyway might be similar for z87)

Thank you for the links wazza300.

I've tried the Renesas and Intel drivers before but will attempt a reflash this weekend, and possibly the beta Bios.

id try latest beta first, can always flash back if you want to,and they are safe to use

flash through qflash though

Ring amazon up, they quote a 30 day return time but I've returned a couple of things to them waay after the 30 day period and they just send you out a replacement, you send yours back - job done! You get a new board in like 1-2 days!

Bet its quicker to go direct through Gigabyte, I heard of people being sorted out within a week.

After trying new beta bios (which messed up memory profiles) and then reflashing F8 it was still having the same issue.

Today I got round to contacting Amazon. They issued a returns label without any issues so I'm set to send it back this week for a refund.

Now for the new dilemma, what motherboard to replace it with?!

how important is usb3? I don't use it so cant comment but pretty sure the asus boards fair better for usb3

Same board again so its a painless swap?

I'd be worried it would have the same issue. Seems to be fairly common for this particular model. I may consider chipping in some extra notes for the OC.

Edit: Just realised it's only the Force model that's a lot more expensive. Would actually save with the normal Z87X-OC...

Right now it's not massively important. I have a few USB 3.0 hard drive caddies etc but the majority are used with Macs.

Speaking of which, another Gigabyte board would mean I could easily do the whole hackintosh thing again...

^ or you could go for the current offer of a UD4H + a Coolermaster water cooler for your CPU

Ended up ordering the Z87X-OC plus a Corsair h100i (plus Corsair SP fans...) had intended to get one at some point. Might as well do it when I'm rebuilding the machine anyway!
