I normally play WoW or Everquest and today i got myself Alan Wake and when i boot them game you can say within 3 min the pc just shuts its self off and when i went to check inside the pc the graphics card actually burnt my hand when i touched the side of the board.

i have upgraded from my bfg 9600 to gigabyte gtx 550ti OC version and when i had the old 9600 i never had a single problem.
Would you say the card is overheating to a point where it just shuts down?

also changed fan speed to 100% in Nvidia control panel and made no difference any help or advice would be great.
edit....did a fresh install of windows 7 unlti

avga 750i *** mobo - 8 gig ocz gold 1066 dd2 - q6600 o/c to 3.4ghz

Hi there,

May I ask what make and model number PSU you are running?

If your PSU is fine, then I would try running your card through Furmark (a GPU stress tester) and see how the temperatures do after a few minutes of testing.

Also, Is the fan on the graphics card spinning up on load (by visually checking it)?

Your 9600 would have run hotter than your 560 so something isn't right.

Like Andi says run furmark and report back on temps. I have the exact same card as you and idle my temps are ~29c and under load ~80c.

Antec High Current Gamer 620W is my PSU

i ran fumark and it cut off at 72c my temps accross all 4 core never got hotter than 40.
my fan speed on boot up for my card is at 100%

i put my old 9600 card in and all was ok no problems then put my 550ti in and it is like a oven in my case.

what do you guys think??
