I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to this, but I thought I'd check here first in case anyone can save me some time and money.

Basically I've bought the above motherboard along with a Intel Core i3-7100 3.90GHz (Kaby Lake), but it just doesn't boot, upon looking into it it's probably because the motherboard needs a BIOS update before the CPU will function correctly. Obviously catch 22: need it to boot to update the BIOS, but it won't boot until it's updated.

I don't wish to purchase another cpu just to do this, alternatively I may have to see if anyone in MM can lend me one for a refundable deposit.

Any other suggestions?? Brand new parts purchased last Thursday from OcUK so I hope it's not just faulty parts but tried it with literally nothing connected and still doesn't boot.

There is no other way around it. If it was a Asus board you would have had another option because they still use removable bios chips and you could have got one programmed with the latest bios off the bay. Gigabyte uses soldered bios chips on most if not all boards so will need to be flashed with a older cpu.

If the board is brand new you could send it back and get a H270/B250 board instead. If you went that route I would send the i3 back as well and get the G4560. The i3's are a waste of money now that the Pentiums have HT and the i3 7100 is almost double the price of a G4560 for a extra 400mhz. Either G4560 or bite the bullet and go i5/i7.

That's a nice touch from Gigabyte. :)

Is this a new service?

Nope, not a new service. We are the only motherboard manufacturer with a service centre in the UK. It means we can be a little more flexible when issue like this arise, it also means you are only with your board for a few days to a week, instead of weeks or month.

well I've been humming and haaaing iver which ryzen board to get - still not decided on specific model but it'll be 100% a gigabyte board simply from reading this thread. excellent support @GIGA-Man

Aorus k5> Corsair LXP 3000mhz > 1600. XMP boosts up first time and 1600 is hitting 3.8, still not finished with dropping the voltage. Downside is Bios is like Gigabyte Boards and not as details as Aorus boards like Gaming 5/k7

That's good to hear. Mems was my next concern. Gonna hold off till I see what happens this week with the AGESA update from AMD
