Hi just bought a new Gigabyte Aorus x870 bundle for my new build but i couldnt get it to post , so i took it appart and i notied a good few of the pins were bent and the only thing i can think of is thet the cooler is too heavy (thermaright peerless assasin) Overclockers refused the Rma which is obiously very dissapointing as they say it is physical damage
So should i contact Gigabyte and ask for a repair or just bite the bullet and get another board ? im reluctant to put this cooler on another board as well in case it happens again (im not a novice)

Any thoughts ?

A lot of people using a peerless assassin with AM5, so I don't think that's an expected problem. I can't say when it usually happens, but my guess is primarily when installing the CPU.

If there's only a couple, you could fix them yourself? There's quite a few videos on YouTube about how to do it. There's also someone on the forums here that has fixed pins.

CPU heatsink wouldn't damage the pins, likely you didn't fit the CPU correctly. Did you take a photo just after you fitted the CPU?

I've fitted about 6 large heatsink fans, never caused damage to the motherboard pins

Im bafelled how this has happend as i have just used the same kit and fitted it to a gigabyte eagle board today with no problems ? using the same methods as i used with the Elite

So i am stuck with a brand new £250 board with broken pins but i did try repairing them but just made it worse as they are so small

a sore one this

I had a similar problem but mine arrived badly bent and the cpu socket looked like a elephant had stood on it, lucky I payed with PayPal and fought and won in the end, Jay2cents had a similar problem with the same board.

Maybe bad luck when you placed CPU into socket it wasn't flat, or lip of CPU was edge of the surround so when you closed the latch it put all the pressure into the opposite edge?

Thanks but i was very careful and didn't notice there was something not flat in the middle at the edge of the pins - definitely a default which bent some pins and i made it worse trying to fix it also i am an engineer and i have built lots of computers in the last 25 years with no problems
