Gigabyte Not Dropping Volts when Idle

Okay so i have the Gigabyte Z97X-SOC and yes i understand that for some strange reason these boards seem to have a different BIOS then every other motherboard in the world.

I have been having high temps idle talking about 50c. I found out that this is because when idle, my Volts do not drop and neither does my frequency.

I have tried enabling, auto, disabling all the options that usually relate to this but i have had no luck.

Here is my BIOS config, i will try and upload more pics if you need them.

Please help as this is driving me insane! (This was not happening around 2 months ago. I've also updated to BIOS F7 and made no difference)

Where it says "CPU VCore" and it's set to 1.185V, is there an option in there for "auto" or "adaptive"?

It's likely setting an explicit voltage is disabling the power saving features. Also check in Windows that your power options allow for the CPU speed to be lowered.

I had the V-core set to this before the temps got high, it has an auto setting but doesn't seem to work. Just buts a constant 2.245 voltage on.

I will look at how i can check the windows part

Try setting the CPU Vcore to normal and then use CPU Vcore offset to get the voltage needed.

yes that's right, you set a nominal value and then use the + or - to add or remove a set amount to the nominal value. Some older AMD motherboards only let you change CPU voltage this way.

Okay so if normal sets V-core at 1.245 i can use a -0.45 to get the V-core to 1.200? Correct as i will be trying to get it down to 1.185 as it used to be fine at these settings

Glad I'm not the only one with an Z97 SOC having this problem.

I've tried a few things with no joy, will be keeping an eye out on this thread.

Finally someone who has the same problem as me with the same setup!

What cooler are you using?

What are your temps idling at and stressing at?

Whats your CPU?

Take a look at this thread that has had a lot of input made on it over the last few days. Its my other thread relating to this problem before i figured it was a BIOS issue. https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18720236&page=3 Some useful info here if you have not tried them.

I'm also in contact with gigabyte so when they reply i will post all my updates here

If your voltage aint going down at idle using normal or auto then setting an negative offset wont help either, all it will do is set the voltage lower all the time. If two of you are having the same problem at the same time it seems a bit too much of a coincidence to me, maybe a windows update has messed things up on both your systems, have ya checked to see if Gigabyte has forums? it might be an issue theyre aware of and working on for your model mobo atm.

Yeah i have though of that but i did not check the temps on the day it might have happened, i only know its within the last 2 months.

JOSH86, do you know when your problems started occurring? Maybe also contact gigabyte yourself so we have entered two of the same problem and link them to this forum thread

have you manually sett all the power saving c3/c6/c7 eist from auto to manual/on rather than auto?

try that,i remember my board suddenly not downclocking if left on auto

Why is the Vcore manually set to a value? have you overclocked the CPU?

Press F2 to goto classic mode and show the screens/setings in the advanced frequency page and the voltage section.

Have you loaded default settings and saved+exit?

I'm going to load the defaults now and I will post all my bios settings for you, yes Windows is set in the correct power options, when I manually change the vcore the temps go down so it's just not dropping volts when idle

In around half an hour i will get all the pics on here, just need to get back home. Yes them images are old.

Could Intel Extreme tuning just being installed don my machine be doing this?
