omg im so miffed! In my new build im using the g1 sniper m5 and its a cracking board it really is but i've had some problems. First board the sound went on it so sent it back and got a new one, finished setting it up yesterday and all seems well, nice one.

BUT i did a benchmark about an hour ago just for the sake of doing one and it came up saying only 4gig or ram when theres 8, odd. I then did the whole dxdiag thing and that too said 4gig -_- Restarted the pc thinking it was just a glitch or somthing and it said the same again, so i took it out and refitted it SAME AGAIN! I then put the ram in the other two slots rebooted and boom there it is, so im guessing one of the 4 slots its broke, i mean really? Two broken mother boards in a row? Will still keep it coz theres no way im being without my pc for another 4/5 days and its somthing i can live with but theres no way in hell my next build will have a gigabyte in it.

Anyone else had so many dramas with one bloody thing?

I can bet my left nut its none of that im a very carefull builder :)

EDIT: Also if it were down to that would'nt that effect all four mem slots?

test with just one stick in the proper slots for dual channel,second/fourth slot

test them one at atime,if no boot into windows you know which slot it is

id still loosen cpu cooler slightly and inspect cpu socket as last resort

it can affect one slot/two slots any (its down to the integrated memory controller inside the cpu) bent pins = missing memory
ive had it happen, bent pins/too tight a cooler

also a blown capacitor ive had on the board cause one memory bank to fail

Just here on my phone now whilst it runs Windows memory diagnostics. Loosened off the cooler then tightened it till it started to give resistance and put the ram where it was initially. Ugh it's slow this diagnostic lol

Maybe reseating memory,loosening/re tightening fixed it

Overtightened cooler can cut the signal from CPU to memory banks sometimes

I did re-afix it with less force than when i first put it on maybe it was that, ah well its fixed now lol thx for the help :)

I retract my previous gigabyte trashing :D
