Gigabyte or msi

That MSI is better.
Gigabyte doesn't have - repeat - doesn't have good motherboards in such price. Sniper, Killer - these are motherboards. Cheap mobos from Gigabyte are like ECS or other OEM products, sorry. This particular model does have two slots x16, but second one is electrically x4 only - so no SLI at all, and XFire a bit slower than usual :/ Moreover once second PCIe is populated, no more PCIe x1 is active (for sound cards, for example).
DH, DS, DSH, UD3, UD4, UD5...9 - too many variations, and any of them in couple revisions - looks like engineers there do nothing else, like ammending old issues, bugs, duds etc.

P.S.
Gigabyte makes better graphic cards than motherboards ;-)

What a load of rubbish.

The only thing correct is the SLI + 4X for the second slot.

What a load of horse burgers, Gigabyte make great boards just ask about on these forums and have set world records when overclocking (why do you think TTL has added the gigabyte logo to his intro along side the cosair one?

I have used many Gigabytes and never had a problem .... unlike other brands, the Gigabyte board offers more features for a better price if comparing apples to apples eg. the Z77X-U3D vs the MSI Z77A-GD55

Go figure......................

Gigabyte has a UK RMA base too in case the worst does happen so you don't have to ship the motherboard half way around the world :D

You are wrong. All is based on official Gigabyte product details, just take deeper look. And there's no reason to compare two motherboards from two shelves. That particular Gigabyte model is cheap. There's no cheap and good things. Period. Cheap might be problemless, but it doesn't makes thing "good" as a rule of thumb (lack features, for example), just "problemless" and that's it. As I observed, there is some issue with "good" word definition in UK, sorry - as not a British native I've got a right to say that, not being involved into some "hurray-optimism", where everything is "brilliant", "fine", and "good". This is extremely visible on Ebay, LOL. Unfortunately, as a buyer you may experience it very often - regarding to item condition. And based on experiences from many users/forums Gigabyte motherboards are not so problemless anyway. I looked at this particular model to see if it has radiators on power section, because previous [cheap] models used to not to have it which leaded to burning mobo equipped with H2O compact cooling & some o/c (strange enough ? But it's true, it's not my "rubbish" - all I say it's experience); luckily this model has got it, but as I can see not on full MOSFETs. If someone has got GB mobo and is happy - fine, but it's not a subject; which is simple comparison of two motherboards.

MSI is company that tends to be number one in motherboards, it's technological growth is the biggest amongst manufacturers. There are facts, if you read reviews and news it's quite clear. There's no point to underestimate this company just because of someone got used to Gigabyte for years. Things change - ones slower, ones faster, if you get what I mean.

Gigabyte engineers release motherboard too often, in my opinion. Look at thread "Official Gigabyte Z77X..." how many motherboards You can see ? UP4, UP5, UP7... lol.. when they finish ? At UP11 ? Go back to "good" definition and think: if UP4 is good, why to make UP5 ? If UP5 is good, why to make UP7 ? And so on and so on. I understand different combinations for market shelves, but this is something more - as I said, it's like engineers didn't know what to do, how to make things good way; like manufacturing with no project manager at all. Their motherboard do work, and they are "correct", because it's impossible -obviously - to sell items which don't work, but go compare: 21 models for Z77 chipset. Who done this ? Gigabyte. Asus - number one - "20" only, some of them are variations like "Game Bundled Edition". MSI - 10. It must be some credibility level, which has been lost in GB, in my opinion.

Let me quote some threads from this forum:
Best z77 board for <£120
- Only worry is, does it have a firewire header?
- Nope.

Purchasing a New Motherboard
- What Motherboard would you recommend?
- The Z77A-G45 is a much better option, and arguably a slightly better option than the popular Gigabyte Z77-D3H or Z77X-D3H (seems like there have been quite a few problem threads regarding these boards in the last couple of days)

Motherboard audio problem
- I purchased a Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 motherboard the other week. I've installed it into my new built computer but when i put my speaker system into the audio output of my motherboard the audio keeps on cutting out nearly every 10 seconds.

gigabyte z77x-ud5h cold boot problems !!
- hi there guys im having problems booting my computer when its cold in the house e.g first thing in the moning when just got up when the heating has only started up , now when its warm in the house and i boot it up theres no problem it seems to be just when the room is cold !!

Z77 D3H Bios freeze
- Whenever i have an overclocking session, when stressing,if i get a BSOD (which will always happen when you o/c)when i go back into the bios to make some adjustments i get freezing before i get the chance to change my settings, the only way i can get running again is to do a cmos reset(annoying)
- Occasionally i get freezes inside the bios on my UD3H, not sure if its the same i thought it was just the keyboard not working and normally works on reboot.

It's my opinion and nobody has to agree with it. I gave some facts, if you want to discuss - use facts, too. Not "rubbish" as an argument, because its value is the same then. I don't want to buy GB motherboard, so you don't have to convince me anyway :)

It's a case of search for the facts you want and you'll find them. Instead of writing Gigabyte you could just as well write MSI, Asus etc and find the same "results".

We all tend to base your purchases on previous experiences and that's is a fair and valid point. The manufacturer that gives you the least "headache" is also the one we tend to get back to.

Personally I only put motherboards into categories that reflects what "i need" - a basic no-nonsense board, all-round board, over clocking board. That's what I tend to navigate after and then it's irrelevant for me it the manufacturer is MSi, Asus, Gigabyte, Asrock, Evga etc.

Very nice balanced post.

As I said earlier at this price point both the MSI and Gigabyte are as near identical feature and performance wise - so brand loyalty aside it is as simple as picking which colour you like.

If people hate MSI boards then they aren't going to buy an MSI board even if it gets glowing reviews and is a slightly newer/better product. Likewise I personally feel the Gigabyte Z77-D3H was elevated to this godly level, not because it was good, just because there wasn't a good alternative at the price point at the time it was launched - the MSI is now a good alternative - that was enough to justify my purchase.

The Z77-D3H has three 1X PCI-E slots, only two of these are shared with the second 16X PCI-E slot (electrically 4X).

That leaves the top 1X slot at the very top of the board working fine (for sound cards etc) with a card installed into the second 16X PCI-E slot.

You are wrong. All is based on official Gigabyte product details, just take deeper look.

O'really?

I'm currently having an issue with my Z77X-D3H as was another forum member last night!

Not scientific but kinda wishing I'd gone for the MSI myself now.

And I'm the other forum member who was having some problems with the Z77-D3H, though it seems that updating the BIOS has fixed things (I think)

As with everything else trying to ask for advice on products on the internet tends to leave you with very binary responses... I like to think there probably isn't a great deal of difference between the main manufacturers so as someone above already said just go for something that has the features you need, is good value, or you like the appearance of, and hope that you don't run into any issues (which you could do on any board!)

GIGABYTE!!!!!

i dont think the msi supports offset/downclocking at idle (not 100% sure on that though)

you get first class support with gigabyte, esp regarding rma and repair

It doesn't support vcore offset, but does support vdroop. But none of the MSI boards including the highly regarded MPower do either....

you get first class support with gigabyte, esp regarding rma and repair

Which is just as well since there have been quite a few people having to send them back
