Gigabyte Osmium Keyboard Repeating

Hey all,

I'm having some problems with my keyboard, it's repeating keys like crazy. I've turned the repeat rate down in Windows to next to nothing and it's still happening a lot.

It's not everywhere, just certain areas, so I've taken those keys off and given them a good clean and still no hope. Oh and the K takes a hammer to register at all.

I've only had the keyboard, bought from OCUK, since last March. It's the red switch version if that makes any difference. Anyone have any ideas what's causing this?

(I had to correct 8 words before I submitted this)

Sounds like it may be faulty. Try it in a few different ports or another computer to make sure it is the keyboard.

Thanks for your reply. I'll try some different ports. It'll be quite annoying if it's faulty as I think I've had it too long to do anything about it returns wise.

Be frustrating to replace a keyboard after less than a year.

I had this problem a while ago -

I am afraid it is a fault many have suffered, and you will not get any joy fixing.
Gigabyte messed me around as well, giving me "firmware fixes" that did absolutely nothing, and also then refused to honour the warranty (citing that it was a "switch fault"???). I did however manage to get a refund via the retailer eventually. It has a 2 year warranty if I remember, so if I were you I would go for a refund.
I have vowed to never buy any Gigabyte products if I can help it after that experience.

I occasionally get a problem like that - keys randomly repeat endlessly every so often. Only pressing the key that's repeating makes it stop. It doesn't happen very often though so I live with it. I also have a problem whereby the keyboard apparently switches off: lights go out, doesn't respond to keypresses etc. Only unplugging it and plugging it back in fix it. In looking into it, I've seen a few people having similar problems.

Probably get both issues 1-2 times a week so it's probably not worth going through the rigmarole of a return with gigabyte. Takes the shine off what is otherwise a lovely keyboard - but I won't be buying Gigabyte again though from what I've read of their customer support on these issues.

I would try your retailer if I was you Prophet187.

I used a large online retailer, and after contacting them and explaining the situation and the fact that the product comes with a 2 year warranty they agreed to a return/refund and then presumably dealt with Gigabyte via their large and powerful sales/returns department. Well worth doing for a £100+ cost keyboard.

I ended up getting a Qpad MK85 which is similar to but slightly less bulky than the Osmium, and is lovely to use and has given me no grief whatsoever.

I also have this keyboard, and I also had this problem, but I remember stumbling across a strange solution. It seemed that by having your mobile phone, or some sort of device that sends/receives data (tablet for example) on the right side of the keyboard sets it off and triggers the repeating key issue. Since then I have made sure I keep everything away/to the left of the keyboard, and I have not had the issue back since.

This is so bizarre, as I keep my phone on the right side of my keyboard, I've moved it and had too correct almost every word in this reply.

My retailer is OCUK. They have sent me an RMA confirmation but I've already explained I don't want another want and if they can help in any other way but just got the copy paste RMA reply.
