Gigabyte P15 v2 broken case

Hi

I have a Gigabyte P15 v2. The left screen hinge seized up and snapped the screw housings for the hinge. Local repairers cannot source parts and MendIT are quoting over £200 to repair as they say that both hinges and the top and bottom cases need to be replaced. Are there any other options available for repair?

With a £150 excess on my insurance, Im considering just getting a new laptop. The P15 cost £950 when I bought it about three years ago. What would the equivalent laptop be now that you would recommend?

Have you tried contacting Gigabyte to see if they can help or at least a quote to get it fixed.

They may not help as the warranty has expired but Worth an ask.

The quote of £200 is from MendIT, Gigabyte's authorised repairer. Its an extra £80 if I want to replace the hinges too.

Oh right my apologies. That is a fair bit then to pay out for some hinges. Have you had a quick look around to see if the hinges are something you maybe able to swap out. I'm not sure how difficult it would be without looking.

£14 on Ebay for second hand hinges which I can swap out easy enough I think. Still leaves the problem of the hinges having nothing to be fixed to as the screw housings have snapped in the base. Repair places say a standard hot glue wont hold it....have had a suggestion of using "Sugru" mouldable glue, but again opinions on results are varied.

If I do need to replace whats the best equivalent laptop under £1000? One of the Gigabyte Sabres or Dell Inspirons?

Just a hint, the OEM for this chassis is Clevo so if you can find a specialist company that builds with Clevo chassis you may be able to get the part from them.

It looks to be a clevo w650.

Contact clevo - I did and they sold me a new case, keyboard, touchpad (all the external bits) for £145 for my p950re. Ah and that included all new fans and heatsinks as well.

I noticed that the new chassis also had a load of revisions to cool the gpu vrm's which was nice.
