Here's the deal on a E2160 and a Gigabyte P35-DS3 rev1.0 board:

9x400 = BOOT NOK
9x356 = BOOT OK
9x<360=BOOT OK
8x356 = BOOT NOK :confused:
7x356 = BOOT NOK :confused::confused:
8x400 = BOOT NOK

I have a Gigabyte P35-DS3 rev1.0 board, I would have said FSB wall but as 8x356 is not booting and 9x356 is, I'm wondering if the board is a bit wierd, or would you people say it is the CPU? I can't seem to work this out.

If I was to upgrade to a Q6600 or Penryn later I don't want to be limited by a "faulty" board you get me? :(

Would it be the board or the CPU?

Have you checked the ram settings/voltage, chipset settings etc? I have a P35-DS3P and it will hit ~350-360 with a Q6600.

Got the latest BIOS as well?

Thanks for your reply!

I have the ram divider @ 2.40 stable now. When I overclock, I put it at 2.00. vdimm is at +0.3 so 2.1v. I've tried even 1.6vcore and MCH +0.3v and FSB +0.3v, no luck. I can get to 3400 but it gets stuck on the windows booting screen.

Isn't it weird it will do 9x356 but not 8x or 7x ?
I have speedstep turned on, but I guess this doesn't bother the overclocking?

Got bios F11 yesterday! So your mobo doesn't go past 350/360 either? Isn't that very low max fsb for these mobos?
