I have bought one of the first Gigabyte P35K laptops available from OCUK and I am experiencing several problems with it at the moment:
CPU:
- There is a problem with the CPU cache - the screen started flickering like on an old TV and/or switching itself on and off within seconds when watching movies (with any player). If I stress-test the CPU cache, the problem occurs and does not stop until I stop the test. The very same thing happens when using Photoshop or even Google maps and makes the machine unusable.
- I can also find the CPU overheating on a regular basis and throttling itself down with up to 35%, especially when the GPU is being used as well. The machine is barely usable under higher load, which is unacceptable for a gaming laptop. The machine is also 100% of the time sitting on a cooling stand.
Battery:
- When the battery level falls below 11-15% percent the laptop never recognizes that the charger has been plugged in and continues to drain the battery until it switches itself off. The only way to start charging the battery is to constantly unplug and plug again and again the charger until it recognizes it. This, however, does not work when the laptop is switched on - it only happens after the laptop switches itself off because of low level battery.
USB: If any of the two USB 3.0 ports is in use, the second one where a mouse is plugged in stops working every few seconds and disconnects the mouse. I have tried switching the two ports but the same happens again and again. If I put the mouse on the usb 2.0 port the problem never occurs. I have tried with 3 different mouses and the issue is always the same (it's not constantly occurring thou).
I guess that there is a problem with the motherboard of the laptop.
Has anyone dealt with similar issues?
Also.. has anyone dealt with Gigabyte's support and how long did it take?
I emailed OCUK but have not received any sort of a reply yet...
Thank you!
