Evening gents, I recently purchased a new laptop (in the title) which is absolutely stunning to look at however I'm having some problems with cooling the CPU.

I'm not sure whether it's a fan problem or whether there's not enough paste or whether it's a just a problem with this particular laptop. Hopefully Atom from Gigabyte might be able to shine some light on this for me :)

The processor in the machine is the I7-4720MQ With a 970M. The 970m stays relatively cool under full load even on auto fans maxs out at around 83 degrees which is perfectly acceptable considering it's in a little slim case however the case has caused me a few problems if you leave the fans on auto the CPU goes to around 90 degrees when playing games as the GPU adds to the heat as well as they quite close to one another which is causing the CPU to throttle. As the laptop was B-Grade I was going to contact Overclockers however I was wondering whether anyone else with this model had the same problem or has my particular just not had enough paste applied>

Any responses would be fantastic, just seems a shame as the laptop is extremely good it's just let down a little bit by the cooling of the CPU, if it turns out it's just the way the laptop is it looks like I might just return it.

Kind Regards Ben

Hi Snodge,

Without knowing the reasons for the B grade status, which shouldn't affect the performance because it is probably just "open box", I would suggest contacting OcUK CS and talk to them directly and see what they suggest regarding paste application and if you or they would perform the task.

I will send thread to Bailey from OcUK and request he contact you.

If you can post your invoice number, this will enable him to get your contact details.

Thanks,

Gigabyte UK NB Team

Well being perfectly honest it seems like it has been dropped however there's only a slight warp on the keyboard and the plastic fixture around the USB ports and charger pops out and in a little bit, this I can live with however Atom I was wondering whether these CPU temperatures are normal in your system, if I repasted it would that void my warranty with gigabyte direct ?

Hey there Snodge

We wouldn't re apply the paste here as we are not a repair center unfortunately. If we were to open up the unit it would void the warranty . We do have the contact details of Gbt's official repair center should you need it and they can provide this for you.

Regards

Bailey

They should be able to carry out the work for you?
