Overclockers have rejected my RMA for a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard, saying that there are bent pins which are causing the motherboard to only read 4gb of the 6gb installed. Only 2 of the ram bays are working.

This is a common problem amongst these motherboards as a quick ocuk forum and google search will confirm.

Ocuk have kindly offered to send the board back to Gigabyte in order for them to fix the problem. What is the usual turn around on this sort of thing? Anyone had experience with Gigabyte.

It can be to do with seating of the cpu! This I have no doubt about. The pins are bent and this is causing the ram slots to not work. I thought this is weird at first but I have been reassured that this is what is causing the ram slots to malfunction.

They didn't really give a time. I'm more curious about Gigabytes after sales support in general.

There's a general pattern emerging here with these mobos, one that suggests gigabyte are sending out dodgy boards. The Internet is full of people reporting this problem and I refuse to accept that it is user error on my part! I didn't place or remove the CPU any differently to how I usually would. The system posted straight away but the ram slots never worked as they should! Gigabyte are either sending out defective boards with bent pins or they are not fit for purpose, in that the pins are becoming bent too easily when the CPU is being clamped down!

Well I rang ocuk straight away after receiving the rejection email and expressed my disapproval for their findings. I explained that I had installed the CPU correctly and that I couldn't see how it was a user error. I explained to them that this is a common error with these boards and that they had a mind to contact gigabyte as this issue would inevitably lose them customers! Me being one of them! He said there was nothing they could do and placed the phone on the hook. 5 minutes later the tech support guy rings back saying he's just got off the phone to a gigabyte representative and that ocuk would send the board to them to be fixed! I agreed but have since checked my email to discover the item has now been replaced??? It's on it's way to me apparently! I'm very pleased and they have secured a very valued customer :)
