Gigabyte RMA Only Half A Job.

Recently I sent off my motherboard for RMA as both the main, and backup BIOS had got corrupt. When I got it back, only the secondary BIOS was repaired (BIOS 1 was broken from new, the second BIOS just seemed to have stopped working during a reboot). Is it possible to flash BIOS 1 from BIOS 2? As it had an issue before, I don't want it to happen again as my kids will be having this machine when the next series AMD CPU's are released.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I really don't want to send it back again as my PC is my source of income.

My board is the AX370 Gaming 5

Well I hope it can get sorted myself, needs doing tbh, if it can have an issue once, it's likely it could happen again.

Hello guys,

I'll see what's happened here, I fixed a similar problem for another forum member a little while ago and both BIOS were updated when the BIOS got corrupted during a flash that failed.

That would be great, as mentioned, the first BIOS never worked when I bought it, and the second just decided to have an issue, but not being flashed, just an issue when I installed new RAM. It worked fine, I rebooted, then error AE and couldn't get into the BIOS to do anything. Any other information needed, please ask.

Sorry it's not possible to flash both easily. I can collect the board out our cost get them both flashed to the latest BIOS revisions and sent back ASAP. Will turn it around for you in a day, let me know if you want that done.

Sorry, I didn't explain properly, I have just got it back from RMA and I declared both BIOS had an issue. They only flashed/fixed the backup BIOS though. I do now have access to the BIOS and the system works.

think what @GIGA-Man is saying is that will look at the state of the first BIOS chip

as mentioned, the first BIOS never worked when I bought it

They only flashed/fixed the backup BIOS though

guessing they will take a look to see if Primary chip is gone- which guessing would be replaced, as only having ONE working BIOS defeats the purpose of a dual bios system which rivals don't even have

If they fixed the back up BIOS they would have fixed the main BIOS too. If they haven't and you are only running from the back up BIOS I can get this fixed so you have a working and up to date Back and Main BIOS.

What RMA number did we give you? I will check exactly what work was done and see what happened for you.

Apologies for the delayed reply - had to write down everything that happens, so I can explain better.

If I select from the BIOS selector #1 the board will switch on and go 0d hang for a second or two then 0d again - after that, it will select the backup BIOS then boot. If I move the top switch to #2 it does the same thing. Only when I put both switches to #2 it will boot as desired.
The RMA number is - UKA-1930062.

Also, is this normal for this board? If I leave everything on auto mode in the BIOS, it wants to draw 1.45v to 1.55v which is far too high, but I set it manually at 1.35v at 3.9GHz on all cores. The only reason I mention this is because after plenty of googling, I have found nobody with the same issue, or at least not on the newer BIOS revisions anyway.

Not an issue, I am now out for the weekend so will make sure to get this looked into first thing Monday. Based on what you told me, I would like to get it back here to test but I will make sure it happens at our cost and is done as quickly as we can.

I am just getting an official statement on the switches for you. Should have it very soon but I check and both BIOS were flashed as I check with the engineer.

Hmmm, now that is a very strange issue. What could be the issue then as they both should work? The little indication light that shows which BIOS that is selected does change to the main BIOS, it just doesn't post to it?! Also, if it was flashed, why on earth am I having issues? I did think it was a hardware issue but as I tried different hardware (GPU, drives & RAM only), and I got the same issue?? When I got it back the board does now post, so now I have no idea. As regard to the switches, I have tried all four options and it only works in a single position?

I think it is to do with the switches themselves and how you use them, I have asked for an official statement from my HQ R&D team but it's taken longer to get an answer than I had hoped due to a holiday in Taiwan last week.

But the switches only have a possible of four options and I have tried all four. sw1 pos 1 & 2 - sw2 pos 1 & 2 - so I tried. 1-1 1-2 2-1 and 2-2. The latter one is the only that works. But now you have me doubting myself, lol!

That's exactly what I think the issue is! There are four options but only two BIOS, main and backup. I have a feeling that booting in either of the other two result in BIOS corruption. I will get an official answer and make sure it is added to the website.

In the mean time I can collect the board at our cost make sure they are both flashed and sent back. Let me know if you want me to arrange this.

Well, the top one is the BIOS selector and the one below is BIOS mode - single/dual BIOS. When I received the motherboard back, I left the switches as they were, then I noticed it was still booting on the backup BIOS I moved the top switch to select the main BIOS and it simply didn't work. It went through the hardware check and memory training doing what it did before I sent it off - 0d a few other things 0d again, then through some more things, od again, then decided this didn't want to work and booted back to the second BIOS.

Sorry for the late reply on this, here is the info I have in regards to the BIOS switches. If one of the BIOS has become corrupted again I can collect the board get it fixed and sent back to you, I will also ask the RMA team to double check hope it behaves too.

Yes, that's what I was trying to say - it will also ONLY work in single BIOS mode - not dual, that just doesn't work at all and hasn't since day one. As for the BIOS selection LED - That is just BBIOS, MBIOS has always been dead, and this is what I put in my RMA form, but I honestly don't think that was ever addressed as the switches where in the same position and it was behaving in the exact same way as it did when I RMA'd it.
I do want to return it, but work is mental right now, so I am going to have to purchase a cheap replacement first. Also, I'm running a custom hardline loop, so it's a bit of an issue swapping it out. I'm really waiting for the x570 series as I'm upgrading my whole machine then. My current system will be going to my kids, so I do want it sorted.
