Gigabyte RMA refused

Hi, new to the Forum. Sorry to be asking for help in my first post, I'll try and keep it short.

So, basically my Gigabyte GTX 970 Mini has died on me. As this was a gift and I don't have the original invoice. I was skeptical about getting it replaced, but after finding quite a few threads on this Forum about success stories where people didn't have the original invoice I thought I'd give it a go. Well, Gigabyte shut me down within the space of 24 hours. They can't repair it because a resistor/transistor on the board has blown and they won't replace it becasuse of aforementioned not having the original invoice. I've spoken to my friend who bought me the GPU to see if he still had the invoice and he can't get his hands on it because he used an old Amazon account he no longer uses/can't remember email or login.

Am I screwed? I really can't afford to be buying a new card right now. I've seen a Gigabyte rep posting in some of the threads I've read about RMA's - care to help a loyal Gigabyte customer out? I've been buying Gigabyte products for over a decade without any issues.

Thanks for listing to my rant. Any help is most appreciated.

Normally you do need invoice at least , as no retailer would accept without .

Also Amazon should have the SN number recorded on the product box as they sold it, if not you can turn any card in any box etc - though heard they don't bother to check much

I have the box and it does indeed have the Cards serial number on it. My friend is working on getting into his old Amazon account to get the invoice.

To Gigabyte's credit they are incredibly quick to respond to emails

Believe RMA place is based in Milton Keynes , if you happen to live near by and get a copy of the invoice :D
 
Always try and register your card on the manufacturers website when you get it. Saves a lot of hassle.

I definitely will be doing so from now on. It's been years since I've needed to RMA something, things seem to have changed a lot. The last Crucial RAM I RMA'd was straight forward, send SN and send back to get a replacement.

Crucial and Kingston have been the best Ive dealt with for RMA's, without going to the retailer. Their return around time is great and all you need is the serial no. Would be nice if others followed.

Couldn't agree more. The Serial Number should give the company all the information they need to track the activity of the product.

Logitech are another company that were excellent to deal with. My K750 Keyboard wouldn't hold charge, I got in contact with them and they didn't even require me to ship the faulty one, they just shipped me a new Keyboard from the Netherlands within 4 days.

We will of course fix the card but if it cannot fix the card we cannot replace the unit without proof of purchase... try your best to get the invoice and I will see if there is any way I can help... sorry but it's possible my hand may be tied if you cannot get a copy of the invoice some how.

Thank you for your reply. I've already been advised that my card isn't repairable based on the pictures I sent to [email protected]. I fear unless my friend can get into the account he purchased the Card from and retrieve the invoice my RMA is a lost cause. Reading the success stories posted by other Members on the Forum who didn't have their original invoice did get my hopes up, but hey, that's life.

This is why I only buy EVGA for GPUs. Provide the serial number and it's all good.

I really do like Gigabyte products, they've served me well, and I've not had a GPU or Motherboard fail from them in over ten years (maybe I'm just lucky) but saying that if EVGA are easy to RMA given the worst case scenario it's certainly something I'll consider during my next puchase.

You still need to register the card though and upload a copy of the invoice initially to have the warrenty work from date of when you actually brought it.

Or otherwise they will run it from the date EVGA shipped the card from there warehouse which could be quiet diffrent. Still a neat system.

That's rather harsh, he only joined yesterday. :D That would probably set a record for the quickest name change for a new member.

OP, don't ask for a name change, things don't usually turn out the way you would like. :D:D:D
