Ok seen a few mentions of this on here, as well as one review on NBR and short videos on youtube.

Given gigabyte's warranty and support service in the UK for other PC parts compared to say asus, this laptop looks very tempting. Trouble is I can't seem to find any information on when it is likely to be released here; from what I've read it could be anytime within the next month. Any chance of ocuk getting these in?

Anyone got their hands on one, or have any further information? :)

I've been keeping an eye on these too. Sadly there's next to no mention of them arriving in the UK. I sent Amazon a message asking if they planned on stocking them, and they've got no information about them at all, couldn't even find them on their system!

Hopefully they'll turn up at some point!

Also wouldnt be suprised if we dont see them in uk, we dont seem to get many of the laptops that are out there? The new asus one isnt in uk, hp dvt7000 quad edition isnt in uk etc.

Hopefully it might be under £1000, if/when it shows up.

If it isn't available here it will be a shame - will pretty much have to go for a vaio s13 instead, or something similar.

Well what do you know, it will be released here in under 2 weeks (I won't link because competitor)! ;)

Any hint on where you heard that from?

As long as the shop's not a direct competitor for OcUK then we're generally okay when discussing laptops :).

Oh ok then, check this thread, I won't link directly because it is quite a big competitor for other pc parts and stuff.

Available for preorder, to be released on the 20th of this month.

Yeah I'm with you on that; will wait and see one or two more reviews before committing, but at least we know it will be this month and not in 3 months or never!

Thanks for that.

Glad it's definitely making its way over here. It sits as a nice alternative to the 13" and 15% VAIO S models. Seems the main difference is that it's got a ULV processor (:() but can come with a 128GB SSD and a 750GB HDD (:)) instead of the optical drive (:().

Roll on the reviews!

Only one of them has an ULV processor, the other is a standard i5-3210M, which is the one to go for.

Also seems best to go for the version without the 750GB drive and fit one yourself, it works out cheaper.

So tempting to preorder, but doing my best to restrain myself! ;)

Ah yeah I see, completely missed that!

Interestingly, from looking at some benchmarks it looks like the ULV i7 3517U gives near enough identical performance to the full voltage i5 3210M, but uses around half the power! Might be worth bearing in mind. Shame there's not a full voltage i7 option as well!

I was just reading about that too, seems like both might perform similarly in which case I'd go for the ULV version for more battery life!

Edit: only trouble is the 2442V costs £100 more than the 2442N; not sure whether the extra battery life is worth that sort of money, given the i5 3210M is going to give slightly better performance.

Yeah it's an interesting choice. Will have to wait for the reviews to come along and see what they make of it.

I'm also interested in seeing if this one can match the clock speeds that the two VAIO laptops are getting to. They've managed to up the clocks to 1GHz now, from the stock of 500MHz, which is obviously a pretty huge gain!

whats the equivalent vaio to this? Guy on the nbr review said this handled games well so is it the same gfx in vaio?

How does pricing generally go with these laptops. If it comes out at 1k and is popular, will the price go up? Wont ideally be buying for a couple months unless i have to buy fast to avoid a price hike lol

Equivalent vaio would be the S13 or S15, although configuring either the sony store works out a few hundred more than this U2442N.

Pricing looks pretty decent at the moment - follow the links, and there are rumours of a 650M version by the end of the year (but I won't be waiting for that, I need it this month).

This pretty much. Although it's worth noting that the Sonys can be equipped with full voltage i7 processors, and the 15" can have a 1080p IPS screen as an option.

Will the ssd in this be a good performer or need replacing do you think?
Don't know how easy it would be to replace, it's an msata ssd.

You can always stick a standard ssd in alongside it, if you get the version without the 750GB hard drive (I'm planning on doing that).
