Having finally built my pc, I've I've powered it up but i'm not able to get it to install windows that I have on a usb stick. When I power it up, if i do nothing i get a message saying 'Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.'

If I hold down F2 I get the Bios dashboard up but there doesn't seem to be a simple way of selecting my usb? Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?

at splash screen press f12 for the boot menu, point it to the usb/hdd and boot from it,install windows

Done that, I select the device press enter, the gigabyte logo comes up for a second then ' 'Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.' comes up again.

I put the windows iso on 2 different usbs and an external hdd . The system wont recognise the usbs, but it will acknowledge the hdd. I've tried them in different ports. How do I make them 'bootable?'

sometimes you need to make it bootable so you can use/boot from it

if the usb stick isn't showing up at all make sure you try latest bios or a different usb stick, some showup and work fine and some wont

it might also need to be formatted in fat32 or ntfs (the usb stick)

Use "Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool" works for Win 8 too, less faffing about.

I've just downloaded this, and its an icon described as a 'self-extractor'. I take it i just put this on my usb and plug this in when i boot up? Or do I extract files before i put it on the usb. Also it just says windows 7, do i have to download anything extra for my 8.1 pro?
