Gigabyte - What happened?

Ever since I started out custom building PC's and overclocking I always choose Gigabyte gear. I think consumers in general and especially PC users rank brand loyalty pretty high.
I always used Gigabyte stuff as it always worked well. I was essentially a customer for life.

So what has happened with the latest batch of 780 / ti cards? The forums are full of people reporting problems and RMA'ing.
I unfortunately was in the same boat. I ordered a 780 ti which would not overclock at all (I know, not guaranteed, but come on, not even 10mhz), and was even mildly unstable at stock!
RMA, changed for 2 Gigabyte 780 for SLI. BOTH cards suffered from the most annoying fan rub when idle. RMA again.
Seriously changed my opinion of Gigabyte and I have now just hit buy for 2 X 780 6 GB EVGA.

Maybe Gigabyte should think carefully when the have so many cards coming back to them with problems. Have they made any comment?

Brand loyalty and customer expectations counts for a lot these days in a world of sub standard quality, a company who does not understand this will only suffer.

I would imagine if these EVGA cards are as good as folk say, they will be my new brand of choice.

I like Gigabyte for their UK based support and quick turnarounds but they do seem to have some issues recently, as do MSI. It doesn't take much of a bad batch to start seeing massive reports over the net.

Problems happen, if they replaced the items quickly then it should count for something.

Gigabyte and corsair have always been good for me, noctua average and Asus so terrible I try to avoid where possible

I have been quite lucky with RMA and only had 1 GPU ever that needed returning (Asus Titan) - 1 motherboard (Asrock) - 1 PSU (OCZ) - and 1 memory Stick (Corsair).

Asus was 6 weeks
Asrock was 4 weeks
Corsair was 4 weeks
OCZ was a week

I think its just Gigabyte Graphics cards. Other items such as motherboards are still top notch.

The 780ti owners thread is rife with users having problems (me too) and its not recent I had issues with Gigabyte 7850's last year.

Just look at all the Gigabyte GPU's in OCUK's clearance section.

Ive had 4 MSI gaming edition 780s now without problems thankfully and I had 5 Gigabyte 7970s,of which I replaced 2. The Gigabyte cards were returned for coil whine so nothing major

Both brands I considered a solid choice and always choose one of them when upgrading so Im a bit concerned to hear so man returns

I have got a little tired of the Main Brands. your right about problem reports with them all over the net, Gigabyte, Asus, MSI...

I think for Nvidia stick to EVGA. they always have good cards

For AMD the equivalent would be Sapphire, their cards have been rather good of late.

Me, i bought from a brand that is apparently not rated, a brand that perhaps needs to impress.
I got myself a Powercolor PCS+ 290, next to the MSI Lighting and Sapphire Vapor-X its has the best cooler, it has a proper independent VRM cooler thats massive, a nice solid Backplate and unlike anyother card that i know of it has glued Coils to stop Whine. its been a brilliant card, its never complained, its always done what i asked it to do.

All those 'Top Brands' they couldn't hold a candle to it.

ive never had any trouble tbh though i havnt used gigabyte gpu's yet

sapphire
powercolor
msi all have been flawless for me

Makes you wonder if Gigabyte actually do quality control tests on the overclocked cards at all, as they would show issues prior to being sent out.

You always see lots of Windforce cards in the B Grade section, most likely come back from repair, or not capable of doing the overclocked settings.

the problem wasnt just rma, but the cards themselves. It does appear to be a common issue with the 780ti series where the factory overclocks are unstable. Some people that did rma got back a good working card whereas others had some right horror stories 3 or 4 rma and sitll same problem.

Having recently purchased a biga motherboard, I can safely say I won't be going near the brand again for some time.

I miss Asus after only three or so weeks away!

Gigabyte went too aggressive in their stock clocks for the GK110 cards- especially the GHz editions. A lot of retail cards couldn't even meet the stock clocks, let alone overclock. Ever wonder why they don't have a flagship overclocker card like EVGA/Asus/MSI?

In the past few years ive owned the following gigabyte cards. 2x gtx 470's, 2x gtx wf 460's, 2x wf 670's and the 780 in sig. All have worked great. Ive never owned one of their mobos, which i hear are well made but slow with bios/software updates. Always go with asus for mobos, even though ive heard rma takes a while with them.

Mostly always use Gigabyte mobos, perhaps fell for the ultra durable and 2oz copper marketing but never had any issues.

Graphics card only had a EVGA card fail, RMA was a breeze. Heck I think It was a 2nd hand purchase too.

Corsair always excellent, sent out cables a couple of times for free and other odd bits and pieces replaced.

Logitech again brilliant

Had really good experiences with both Patriot and Crucial, along with Samsung who replaced a B grade monitor purchase from OCUK with no hassle.

I personally would still give card a chance if they were able to sort it. Gigabyte just needs to restore customer confidence and give some assurance it was a bad batch and not the quality of all their graphic cards.

Was reading another forum and it seems some of their 290 series is doing the same thing too? Anyone know if there any truth, first hand?
