Gigabyte Windforce 4090 Won’t Overclock

Hi all - I have a gigabyte wind force 4090 and getting scores of 25000 to 25200 on timespy.

I’ve tried overclocking the card by using Msi afterburner (maxing the voltage, power limit etc) then increasing the core and memory clocks but it just seems to give less performance even if I put the memory and core 200mhz higher - 24700 to 24900

Is there something I’m missing here?

Thanks. So is there a way of overclocking or am I just at the limit at stock? Not that the card isn’t fast enough!
they are pretty much factory overclocked with no headroom, they aren't watt limited but voltage limited and that's probably why you can increase the clockspeed but get worse results

Is that just the regular Timespy (not Extreme) and the graphics score alone? If so that seems quite low. Just doing a Timespy run at stock on my 4090FE does 36616 on the graphics.

Hi yeah just the standard edition. I`m running an i9990k at 5 ghz so could that be bottlenecking the score? If I look when its running the CPU is nowhere near maxed however.
Heres my timespy score and the graphics do seem low

Be honest I returned the windforce and kept the zotac base model because the windforce just wouldn't clock higher under any circumstances. The Zotac overclocks the standard 5%ish and is 10c cooler.

thanks - that's certainly what i`m finding. Dont get me wrong, I can play dcs now in 4k on my pimax 8kx and get 60hz locked at 60 fps even in multiplayer so its a big step up from my 3090

It's a 4090 and a good value one. When you look at the 4080s you technically got more value for money.

Your score does seem a little low, and I'm not sure why, as we're comparing graphics score here which shouldn't have much to do with the CPU.

It's strange because mine is at stock clocks, and yet yours is running a higher core clock than mine, and yet your nearly 6k points down.

Yeah that’s what I don’t understand when comparing scores with others on the same hardware.
What psu and cabling are you using?

My psu is a bit overkill, it's a Dark Power Pro 12 1500W :) I did start with the Nvidia adapter, but have just switched to the bequiet 12vhpwr adapter, but there's no performance difference after the switch.

I would probably check to make sure your running at full pcie speed, and try resizeable bar also.

I just got a 1200w Corsair tonight along with their high power connector and still nigh on the same score on the same settings

When I did run the msi afterburner scanner though it pulled 630 watts from the board vs 480 before. So there is a difference.

What’s the best way to check pcie speed and bar?
