Bought one of these and an Intel i7 3820, but I've had to return the board as the system won't start (doesn't even POST). I'm assuming the board is faulty, but is it likely my graphics card could be causing the problem? It's quite old, an Nvidia 9800GT, which is currently running in my X38 board with no problems at all.

Does the X79 board support older cards? It's PCI-E x16. The guy in the PC shop tested everything but nothing happens, the CPU fan runs, there is power to the case/fans etc but there are no beeps at power-on and the display doesn't come on so can't access BIOS. He tried another graphics card but that didn't work either, so I'm guessing the board is dead?

In some instances Bios support for brand new or very old cards is poor. I don't believe this is the case here though as other cards have been tested.

I would RMA the board. Gigabyte RMA service is excellent.

I've returned the board to place of purchase (Amazon, remind me never to buy major PC components from there!). New board arriving tomorrow, hopefully this one will work. My video card is actually a 9600GT PCI-E 2.0 card (so quite old, but not old old PCI-E 1.0!)
