Gigabyte Xtreme 3090 vbios issue

Hi guys

I upgraded my vbios to F2 on the above card using the Aorus Engine auto update to get access to the resizable bar which worked absolutely fine. The resizable bar is on, it shows in sys info on the Nvidia settings. However, it has halved my performance in games and benchmarks. Timespy is only 10,000 points of gfx settings instead of over 20,000 before. Is there any way to downgrade to F1?

Hi, Thanks for the reply.

List of hardware and drivers/bios to clarify...

Asus Crosshair VIII Dark Hero running latest bios 3602
Ryzen 5950x
Ballistix 32gb 4400 Ram running at 2666Mhz as XMP Profile 1 doesn't work properly (maybe will on an upcoming bios)
Gigabyte Xtreme 3090 running latest vbios F2 and running latest 471.11 drivers
Windows 10 running latest updates

I have turned off rebar in mobo bios and makes no difference so turned it back on again. As far as I know you need to update the gfx card bios as well as the mobo to get rebar working. It shows in Nvidia sys info as turned on.

Perhaps I just have to wait for Gigabyte to issue a new vbios which doesn't hobble the gfx card to half its speed!

Sad Nation

Nope that didn't work I am afraid, worth a go though.

Looking at the graph on Timespy, the GPU memory tops out at 1219 Mhz and the GPU Clock Frequency is averaging about 700Mhz with the temperature being around 60-63 degrees on 99% load so it is nowhere its fastest speeds. As mentioned before it is about half its normal speed.

Try as I might, I can't find the switch on the card to go from OC to Silent or vice versa. No overclocking software is running and max performance in Nvidia drivers is turned on but again no difference to the low scores. Thank you for your help so far though, much appreciated.

Yeah I had looked at that picture but could not locate it. Is it on the PCI connector side so I have to take the whole card out to change the setting?

Its okay I found it, the original graphic made it look a lot larger than it actually was! Thanks for the much clearer picture!

The good new is that worked, I now have a much faster gfx card with Timespy score of 17000 odd instead of 10,000 with the original F1 vbios for Silent. This is lower than before as it is the silent mode which obviously boosts lower. So the F2 vbios on OC mode is causing the issue, probably as it is restricting the power threshold. I might try downloading the F2 vbios again from gigabyte and reflash it if it will let me. Unless someone can tell me how to reflash the OC mode to F1.

Hi again! No rebar on working silent bios and it shows as F1 vbios. I tried flashing the F1.3 on the OC vbios which looked like it worked but just left the newer vbios in place as F2. I can't reflash the OC vbios to F1.1 or F2 using both reflashing tools now so I think that is me for the night. The F1.3 attempt says F1.1 and then says "Erasing Flash failed". The F2 flashing attempt say "this BIOS version does not match".

Sorry that was a typo, I meant 3601, I think the one before was a 3502 beta so I got confused, easily done these days! I have sent a ticket to Gigabyte e-support so I will see what they say! Thank you very much for your support, I do really appreciate it!

You're welcome, good luck with GigaByte, but don't stress if they say you need to RMA it, because we can just NVFLASH the original BIOS back, just quote one of my messages above and shout help and I will get an alert and we can sort it out.

Don't mess with NVFLASH if you have never used it or you may brick the bios you are trying to flash.

Just let me know at time if you need help and that way we won't brick the card, flashed a good few 3090s so far and all worked fine.

Hi Purgatory. Guess what Gigabyte want me to do, yep RMA the card! It's a bit off really considering I used their own software to update the card.

Anyway, I would like some help please using NVFlash.

Thanks you so much for your help. I reset the vbios to F1 using nvflash as you explained then updated to F2 using the program in the downloaded vbios update folder. I now have an F2 vbios that works properly and has resizable bar enabled. I am constantly amazed how much help can be obtained for free from people such as yourself.

You sir, are a star! Thank you.

The flash I originally used was from using the Aorus Engine utility to find a European download and used that. It was probably slightly different from the one you pointed me at. Even so, I was using the manufacturers own program that halved its speed - pretty annoying when I paid top dollar for the fastest card out there. Thank you once again for all of your valuable help.
