Hello,

Friend of mine has made the mistake or purchasing a Gigabyte SKT-1155 Z68XP-UD3 Motherboard and a Intel Core i5-3570 3.40GHz (Ivy Bridge) Socket LGA1155 CPU.

When he powers the system on there's no Post screen, it boots - the fans whrrrrr, then it cuts out and repeats the process, it does this til he cuts out the power.

I believe its doing this because hes got a Ivy Bridge CPU in a Z68 mother board that doesn't support ivy bridge out the box ?? am i correct ?

There is a BIOS update for the mother board to support ivy bridge which is good news, http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3892#bios

Is the only option to get a sandy bridge CPU so it boots up, flash the BIOS and then go with the ivy bridge CPU ?

Maybe there's something else going on ??

Thanks Ben

yes most likely you'll need a sb cpu update to latest bios and use the ib cpu

you can buy a cheap Celeron g550 or g620 cpu to update the bios with

Some asus motherboards let you flash the bios directly - without even needing a cpu in the socket - but I think you need to either buy/borrow a cpu or ask some local corner pc shop if they can flash it for you for £10.
