Hi all,

Just bought the above board from OCUK - my pci xonar card seems to make the pc turn off after a few seconds of booting (just before and just after reaching bios) on a continuous loop.

Is it likely that my pci is naff?

Seems to boot up fine in my parents PC, and was fine before in my old mobo.

Id rather not RMA the board, as everything else seems perfect and its so stable.

are you using the latest motherboard bios? if not try that first as it could simply be a bios incompatibility with the xonar

you can look in easytune in windows if you have it installed

latest bios will be on gigabytes website, just type in your mb model and download it/extract it to usb memory stick and flash through the bios using qflash

if its booting fine without the card installed then 99% its a bios bug, seeing that the card works fine on another machine

Okay, EasyTune won't install however msinfo tells me SMBIOS Version = 2.4

Gigabyte says there are different revisions of my board, how do I tell which it is?

cant you look in the bios? 2.4 is for something else

the revision will be printed in white on the motherboards pcb somewhere

I haven't got a USB, I tried @BIOS, used the latest file (non beta) it reset my CPU oc so guessing it worked, but still the same loop for sound card.

its hard to say what it is,whether its bios or like you say the pci slot itself, only way to be sure is to try another pci card in the slot

you'll have no problems returning the board though for replacement or to check it ect

Yeah, just hassle really, rather sell my card and get a pcie version than send the board back, ill get a friend to bring over another pci card or pcie version.

Okay, boots fine in my long pci-e slot, just not in the short pcie 1x slot.

I will leave it there for now, can't see any damage, took a picture will upload later.

(I just realised I had the PCIE version all along)

ahh does it say it needs a minimum of 1x pcie for that card or higher 4x/8x/16x ect

it won't work if it needs more than 1x speed

Well it was plugged into my PCIE1X slot on my P67A, so guessing not.

Not going to mess about with fate any longer, seems to be working fine now =]
